Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II join Netflix’s Black Mirror
Marvel and DC actors are set to leave the comic book worlds behind and step into the unknown for the upcoming season of Black Mirror.
According to a report from Deadline, Anthony Mackie (Captain America and Avengers franchises’ Falcon) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Manta in Aquaman) are cast in the fifth season of Black Mirror.
Black Mirror, surrounded in mystery, as usual, hasn’t released any episode details yet. There also still isn’t a release date for the long-awaited anthology series’ new season. After all, Black Mirror started work on season five back in March of 2018, according to Bustle.
After Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the new interactive version of the Emmy Award-winning show from Netflix, dropped in late December, word came out that this meant season five was being pushed back, though no one knows how far back.

At this point, season five may become the first season to drop when it’s warm outside (with seasons one and four and Bandersnatch all dropping in December, while season two came out in February and season three came out in October).
The show is created and written by Charlie Brooker, who created the show on the British television station Channel 4 before it was picked up by Netflix. With a mission similar to that of The Twilight Zone, Booker, in an article for The Guardian back in 2011, said his show is “about the way we live now – and the way we might be living in 10 minutes’ time if we’re clumsy.”
Mackie and Abdul-Mateen II become the first major cast members released for a series that has utilized the talents of Breaking Bad‘s Jesse Plemons, Jodie Foster in a directing role and Jon Hamm.

The series has won six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Television Movie for both “San Junipero” and “USS Callister.” Much like seasons three and four which brought us those two episodes, season five is expected to be six episodes long.
