Better Things will be back!

FX decided to hand the Pamela Adlon series, Better Things, an early renewal today according to Deadline. The show is still airing its third season but the network remains consistently impressed with the creative strength since its debut.

It isn’t just the network that’s fallen in love with Better Things. The series is one of the most critically successful series on television right now, with this season currently holding strong with a one hundred percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Not to mention, Adlon (who produces and stars in the show) received two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nod for her work on the series.

In his statement to Deadline, the Chairman of FX Networks and FX Productions, John Landgraf, expressed his pride in the series and his excitement regarding the renewal.

More from FX

"“With every season, Better Things becomes more vital, engaging and revelatory, cementing Pamela Adlon’s status as one of the most accomplished creative forces in television today. Rarely has there been a show that is so personal and, at the same time, so thoroughly universal in the way it explores modern parenting, family and life. We are thrilled to extend the series for a fourth season and to continue this incredible partnership with Pamela, her creative team and the amazing cast of Better Things.”"

Over the past few years, FX has made more of a push to air critically acclaimed shows even if they’re not necessarily the most popular. This has allowed many creators to have more leeway with the stories they want to tell and the overall direction of the show. Adlon has done that with Better Things, putting a fun spin on being a single mom but also showing some of the harsher realities that come with it. She’s not only the producer and star of the series but also the showrunner, writer, and director.

Adlon also expressed her gratitude at being able to continue creating Better Things to Deadline.

"“I am humbled, grateful and excited to tackle another season of stories and continue my creative partnership with my fearless FX team.”"

Unfortunately, fans may have to wait a bit for the fourth season. It isn’t expected to return until sometime in 2020. Then again, Better Things fans have probably gotten used to it considering the second season finished airing in November 2017 but the third season didn’t premiere until the end of February this year.
