The Walking Dead will have a familiar face return behind the scenes.

While Abraham may be gone, actor Michael Cudlitz will be back to direct an episode in season 10. Cudlitz was on EW Morning Live discussing his new show, The Kids are Alright, when he broke the news of his return. The Walking Dead had him step behind the camera this season for “Stradivarius” and he’s slated to take over the third episode next year.

Cudlitz isn’t the only former star of The Walking Dead expected to direct in season 10. Andrew Lincoln also revealed he would be back to do the same as well as star in his own spin-off.

The series has gotten a reputation for cast turnover through the years, with many fan favorites biting the dust. Despite leaving the show in season 7, Michael Cudlitz spoke on EW Morning Live about how his time working on “Stradivarius” gave him an introduction to almost every new member.

More from AMC

"“I know the other cast members because I was fortunate enough to go back last year and direct, and I’m going to go back this spring and direct another one. I’m directing episode 3 of season 10.”"

According to Cudlitz, the only new cast member he doesn’t know is Samantha Morton, who plays Alpha. However, he did talk about how he’s able to keep in touch with everyone thanks to the many fan conventions he attends with the rest of the cast. There’s definitely a chance the two meet before filming begins for season 10 because of this.

As for missing The Walking Dead, getting to see his friends and former castmates through the year is just one of the perks.

"“Everybody asks, ‘What do you miss most on the show? And the thing I would miss the most typically I don’t miss because I do see all these guys. What I would miss is all the people, and I see these guys five to six times a year at different conventions. We travel all around the world together. That’s one of the cool things that this has afforded me.”"

Unfortunately for fans, Michael Cudlitz’s Abraham probably won’t be returning in front of the camera anytime soon. The character was killed off in the season 7 premiere thanks to Negan and his trusty bat. Abraham was a fan-favorite on both the show and the comics but viewers have often hoped he would make the jump to Fear the Walking Dead somehow. In November, he actually revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he did have discussions about potentially moving to the spin-off show somehow.

"I’ve also spoken to Michael Satrazemis, and we briefly chatted about me possibly going over to Fear the Walking Dead, but again, that would again be their choice. I let them know that I would love to do that. Now the ball’s in their court at this point.”"

For now, it seems like fans are going to have to settle for having Cudlitz return behind the camera or watching him on his new ABC show, The Kids are Alright. The sitcom airs every Tuesday night at 8:30 PM EST on ABC and is about an Irish Catholic family set in the 1970s.
