Game of Thrones: Fate of the beloved Tormund revealed

Game of Thrones is typically hush-hush about plotlines, especially the fate of characters. But one person’s fate may have been spoiled during the trailer.

Did fan-favorite Tormund Giamtsbane survive the Wall collapse last season on Game of Thrones?

Spoiler alert: YES!

Kristofer Hivju, the man behind the red-bearded wildling worrier, told Entertainment Weekly that for months, he had to be extra careful to not let it on that he would still be on the show come Season 8. But when HBO released the Season 8 trailer a few weeks ago, we see a brief clip of him and Beric Dondarrion (Richard Dormer) walking.

More from Game of Thrones

Where are they walking? Will he rejoin Jon Snow at Winterfell? Will he and Brienne get together?

We don’t know, and Hivju isn’t letting anything slip, either.

Although, he does give some insight on where Tormund’s head is at the beginning of Season 8. He said,

"“He wants closure. All the Free Folk grew up with the horror stories of the White Walkers, like that story Nan told Bran in season 1 with the ice spiders — except having seen them. This has been the terror of their worst nightmare as long as they’ve existed. Tormund has confronted them many times. This is the nightmare moment where you have to face centuries of bad dreams.”"

I mean, think about it. Tormund has just gone through the single-scariest moment of his life. I worry that he won’t be a hundred percent to help Jon defeat the Army of the Dead.

And will Tormund even survive the season?

If he doesn’t survive the entire series, I think he makes it through most of it. Because, how do you survive a wall collapse of that magnitude only to die a little while later?

Hivju also told Entertainment Weekly that he didn’t understand the impact the epic fantasy drama had on pop culture until he watched an episode surround by diehard fans. He said,

"“It was the episode where [Rory McCann’s character, the Hound, who was presumed dead for a time] came back, and there was this roar. I’m going for that.”"

After Game of Thrones, you will be able to catch Hivju in the movie Downhill, alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell, now in post-production.
