Falcon and Winter Soldier: Series Confirmed with Mackie and Stan on Disney+

Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes may be dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be in a show on Disney+.
Disney has a busy year ahead. After announcing the launch of its dedicated streaming platform, Disney+, the conglomerate has confirmed a slew of original spin-offs from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Comicbook.com reports that during the recent investor meeting, Disney officially confirmed that Falcon & Winter Soldier will be released as a series starring Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, who will be reprising their respective roles from the film franchise. To seal the deal, Disney has also released a logo for the series which features Falcon’s wings and the red star from the Winter Soldier’s metal arm.
There is no news on when the Falcon & Winter Soldier series will be set in the Marvel timeline, especially given that both Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes perished during the denouement of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War. It remains to be seen whether these characters will be resurrected in Avengers: Endgame (out this April), allowing Falcon & Winter Soldier to take place soon after the finale.
One could speculate that the events in the series could occur after Captain America: Civil War, but before Infinity War, if we are to assume that Bucky Barnes interacted with Steve Rogers and his crew of fugitive superheroes while Barnes was recuperating in Wakanda. Marvel had reported that Barnes had relinquished his Winter Soldier codename in favor of White Wolf, the moniker he earned in Wakanda.
Most fans excited for the series are vying for a buddy-cop comedy, which also got our vote when we reported on the series in 2018. Wilson and Barnes have the right kind of chemistry that would lend itself perfectly to that genre of storytelling.
Along with fellow Marvel shows WandaVision and Loki, Disney+ is said to also be developing another Marvel property about Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. Disney+ will be available to US residents from November 2019.
