The Eddy: Amandla Stenberg joins Damien Chazelle’s Netflix series
Netflix’s The Eddy finds another star!
The Hate U Give and The Hunger Games actress, Amandla Stenberg, has officially boarded Damien Chazelle’s upcoming music drama. Deadline reports The Eddy has added her in a starring role alongside the previously announced Andre Holland.
Stenberg is set to play Julie, the daughter Holland’s Elliott who gives her father a much-needed wake-up call. The eight-episode series revolves around Elliott’s struggling jazz club and how he copes with his career as a former jazz musician.
The Eddy takes place in Paris and will be filming all of its scenes in France. Netflix describes the show’s setting as a “contemporary multicultural Paris” and will feature dialogue in French, English, and Arabic. It’s certainly impressive to see The Eddy will try to give the series an authentic feel as well as honor the actual city of Paris. While Elliott and Julie will be a central focus in the series, the other characters will include the house band and other club goers.
After Damien Chazelle’s success with La La Land, expectations have been high for his Netflix series. He is not only producing and creating The Eddy but he’s also expected to direct a handful of episodes. Jack Thorne (Wonder) has also signed on to write several episodes while Alan Poul and Houda Benyamina are also slated to direct. Glen Hansard (who starred in and wrote most of the music for Once) will be writing the music for this series also. Hansard, Thorne, and Poul are all executive producing alongside Chazelle.
Netflix has yet to confirm a release date for The Eddy but production will begin sometime this spring. However, the series is expected to premiere sometime in 2020.
