Santa Clarita Diet slashed by Netflix after three seasons

Santa Clarita Diet won’t live to see another season.
Santa Clarita Diet has been canceled by Netflix after three seasons, according to Deadline. Let that sink in for a second before reading on. Sigh, yes, after three pretty solid seasons, the zombie comedy will not return for another. It’s a shame considering how the third season ended. I would have loved to see them explore that storyline and was pretty darn excited for it. But alas, we won’t ever know what would have happened.
For those of you who haven’t caught up, I won’t spoil how the third season ended, but for those of you who did, I’m sure you’re feeling the same as I do now. The zomcom starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant was a hilarious comedy about unexpectedly dealing with an undead person. The story followed the mystery of what turned Barrymore’s character, Sheila, in the first place and how the rest of the family dealt with it.
Honestly, I’ll miss it a lot because it wasn’t like all the other zombie shows out there. It was comedic, clever, and just a fun watch. Whatever prompted Netflix to cancel it is beyond me. And I’m not alone in my frustrations as Twitter has broken out in anger over the sudden cancellation. Santa Clarita Diet was so special to so many of us, it’s just not fair! #SaveSantaClaritaDiet

Even though Netflix does not release rating information, the third season of Santa Clarita Diet seemed to do pretty well based on audience reaction. So, like, Netflix, why? Here’s what the streaming service had to say following the announcement.
"The world had never known a ‘zom-com’ until Santa Clarita Diet, and we’re indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix. To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead."

Saying goodbye to the Hammonds and this hilarious story will be harder than we can imagine, and it’s comforting to know all those involved feel the same. Whether or not we’ll ever see the Hammond family is unknown, but they will live on in our zombie-loving hearts forever.
