Paper Girls adaptation gets a series commitment from Amazon
Paper Girls is finally heading to television thanks to Amazon.
It’s official, the Paper Girls adaptation is happening. Deadline reports that Amazon managed to secure the rights and immediately made a series commitment for the new series.
Written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls is arguably one of the best comics from this generation. A best-seller, it only seemed like a matter of time before someone swooped in to try their hand at adapting the story.
The comic follows a group of four 12 year old girls who accidentally find themselves in the middle of a war between time-travelers during their newspaper delivery route. The story kicks off in 1988 on the morning after Halloween where the girls are swept up in various timelines and see their own fates.
There is currently no word on casting but the project comes from Legendary Television and Plan B. However, Amazon does have a writer with Stephany Folsom (a co-writer on the summer hit Toy Story 4) is tasked with job of adapting the story. Folsom is also signed on to serve as an executive producer alongside Vaughan.
Television viewers may recognize Vaughan’s name thanks to Hulu’s Runaways, since he was the original creator for that comic book. Another one of his hit comics, Y: The Last Man, is currently being developed into a series at FX. It only seems like a matter of time before some of his other comic books, like Saga or Ex Machina, also find themselves being fought over for adaptations.
