Schitt’s Creek received some surprising but deserved Emmy nominations this year.

It often feels like the Emmy Awards overlooks some smaller but fantastic shows in favor of what’s buzziest. However, justice has been served this year with Pop’s flagship series, Schitt’s Creek, finally earning some nominations. The sitcom is headed into its final season but word of mouth and Netflix have helped more people realize what they’ve been missing out on for years.

Series leads Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy both scored nominations in the Outstanding Actress/Outstanding Actor categories while the show itself will be competing in the Outstanding Comedy Series category. The show’s costume designers also earned a spot in the Outstanding Contemporary Costumes as well.

Levy, who serves as a co-creator and executive producer alongside his son and co-star Dan Levy, spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how excited he was for the triumph.

"“I was really shocked about my [nomination], but not shocked at all to hear Catherine got a nomination. And then [the costume designers]! But when we got the nomination for best comedy, that was so gratifying, because it truly recognizes every single person that’s worked on the show.”"

Meanwhile, Dan Levy had nothing but support and pride for his co-stars and show for earning nominations.

O’Hara also told Entertainment Weekly about how she tried not to get her hopes up and when she saw how most sites didn’t even predict Schitt’s Creek would get noticed, she decided to keep her expectations low. However, she was in for a big surprise!

"“I’m so excited for the show, that’s the most exciting one. There is a lot of love in the show along with big laughs, and I think that the love in the show has made a lot of really lovely, kind people get behind the show and force other people to watch it.”"

The beloved series has built up a cult series on the Pop Network, which has only been around for about four years. This is the network’s first Emmy nomination and a major win for a channel still trying to find its footing.

Schitt’s Creek revolves around a fictional town of the same name and the formerly wealthy Rose family who purchased it. Eugene Levy stars as the patriarch, Johnny, while O’Hara plays his wig-loving wife Moira. Their kids, David (Dan Levy) and Alexis (Annie Murphy), are also along for the ride as the Roses attempt to acclimate to their new life and the unique people of the town.

It was announced earlier this year that the show would return for a sixth and final season by the Levys. Here’s hoping at the next Emmy Awards that the entire cast earns some recognition!
