A Discovery of Witches adds Tom Hughes to the season 2 cast for a pivotal role.

Novel fans will be excited to hear the latest casting for the Deborah Harkness adaptation. Deadline reported today that Tom Hughes has officially joined A Discovery of Witches to play Kit Marlowe in season 2.

Christopher Marlowe, known as Kit to his friends, becomes a major supporting character in the second novel, Shadow of Night. Kit has an interesting background: he’s a demon, a poet, and one of Matthew’s best friends.

Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches will pick up with Matthew (Matthew Goode) and Diana (Teresa Palmer) in their pursuit to find the Book of Life. The finale ended on a cliffhanger, with the two seemingly preparing to timewalk to a different era but we don’t actually see it happen. However, AMC confirmed the second season will see the two travel through Elizabethan London to continue their hunt for a book and find a teacher for Diana.

Tom Hughes issued a statement regarding his excitement to step into the fantastical series. He joins another new cast member, Adelle Leonce, for the season 2 adventure.

"“I’m looking forward to stepping into Deborah’s fantastical world to play such a fascinating man as Kit Marlowe. With a rich history to draw from, Kit’s darkness and mercurial nature will be a delight to delve in to.”"
