Ted Lasso gets the greenlight from Apple

Apple has just given the green light to Ted Lasso, a comedy written by Jason Sudeikis and Bill Larence that’s based on Sudeikis’ NBC Sports character.
Coach Ted Lasso is finally getting his own TV show.
According to Deadline, the character made famous by Jason Sudeikis attracted the head honchos at Apple, who gave Sudeikis and Bill Lawrence the greenlight to produce the comedy Ted Lasso, based on the character Sudeikis created for a series of NBC Sports videos that went viral several years ago.
The upcoming series will be based on the former football coach who traveled across the pond to England to coach soccer, with the only problem is that he doesn’t know the game of soccer, he only knows football. The Ted Lasso videos were a hit, and it didn’t take too long for people to question whether or not Ted Lasso deserved his own TV series.
Apple answered the call, coming to the conclusion that Ted Lasso would be a perfect fit for its Apple TV Plus streaming service. The series has been in the works for a year now, and the show has also recruited Brendan Hunt (Bless This Mess) to co-star along Sideoikis as Coach Beard.
Sudeikis will be a writer and executive producer of the series, along with Lawrence and Jeff Ingold. Liza Katzer will be a co-producer and Hunt will also serve the role of producer. Ted Lasso represents a return to the small screen for Sudeikis, who decided to concentrate on the big screen following his exit from Saturday Night Live in 2013.
