Lost in Space Season 2 has a trailer!
By Wade Wainio
Lost in Space returns to Netflix on December 24th and they have a trailer to prove it. Will their be eels and Oreos?
Lost in Space was successful enough for a season 2, and why not? The show had plenty of action, fairly likable characters and excellent special effects (the CG has actual attention to light and shading!). The trailer for season 2 makes it look pretty action-packed and also includes music from Iggy Pop.
The trailer moves pretty rapidly, so it’s easy to overlook some details. We see that the Robinsons (Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell) are all there, apparently in one piece. However, we don’t quite know where they are, and it’s likely that neither do they (hence the title Lost in Space). It is obvious that they’re in some hostile environments at various points, including what looks like a very watery planet, forcing them to use their spacecraft as a boat. We also catch promising glimpses of robot attackers and wild animal stampedes, suggesting that the Robinsons haven’t quite tamed all of space yet.
Other returning characters
Dr. Smith (Parker Posey) and Don West (Ignacio Serricchio) have not been forgotten, though surely many wonder why they’d even keep Smith around. Even her name isn’t real (her real name is June Harris)! We also have the return of the robot (Brian Steele). The big question: Will they ever make it to Alpha Centauri? It seems a bit unlikely, as that means they’d no longer be in turmoil. Still, you never know.
This show won awards!
Lost in Space did garner a little bit of recognition between seasons. For starters, it was nominated for 5 different Saturn awards. Specifically, the show itself was nominated for Best Streaming Science Fiction, Action, & Fantasy Series. Molly Parker was nominated for Best Actress in a Streaming Presentation. Maxwell Jenkins was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Presentation. Also, Parker Posey and Taylor Russell had separate nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Streaming Presentation. No doubt the show has been good for Russell. She also starred in the psychological action horror film Escape Room, which has a sequel in the works.
Also, because the show has quality special effects in virtually every scene, it won 4 Visual Effects Society Awards in 2019. Looking at the trailer, it seems they’re not slouching in that department this season, either. So, if nothing else, people might want to watch Lost in Space to see how visual effects ought to be done.
