The Crown doesn’t make the list of Netflix’s most popular in the UK
Is The Crown not as popular as we thought?
While it seems like The Crown might be one of the most popular shows in the United States, that might not be the case elsewhere. According to Deadline, the period drama failed to make Netflix’s list of most popular shows this year in the United Kingdom.
This comes as a bit of a major surprise, considering The Crown has long been considered the “flagship series” within the UK. In fact, the streaming network spent a large amount of money on a marketing campaign for season 3 and enlisted a new all-star cast for the latest season.
There is an argument that the series didn’t have enough time to compile more viewers because it was released in November whereas other shows that ranked, like Black Mirror or The Umbrella Academy were released much earlier. However, The Witcher which debuted this month, managed to secure a spot which makes it seem unlikely.
Season 3 of The Crown stars Olivia Colman, Tobias Menzies, Helena Bonham Carter, Marion Bailey, Charles Dance, John Lithgow, Derek Jacobi, Geraldine Chaplin, Ben Daniels, Jason Watkins, Erin Doherty, Jane Lapotaire, Josh O’Connor, Michael Maloney, Emerald Fennell, and Andrew Buchan. Season 4 is already in production and it once again seems to be doing well on the awards show circuit with four Golden Globe nominations.
Other shows that made the list include Stranger Things, Sex Education, You, Unbelievable, Top Boy, and Dirty John.
