New releases like You and The Witcher climb to the top of Netflix’s most popular list.

As the streaming wars begin to ramp up with Disney+ debuting and more on the way, Netflix is ending the year with quite a few hits. Their most popular list has a few familiar faces on it, but the streaming service also has some newcomers like You and The Witcher on the rankings this year.

According to Deadline, these are the official rankings from Netflix:

  1. Stranger Things 3
  2. The Witcher
  3. The Umbrella Academy
  4. Dead to Me
  5. You: Season 2
  6. When They See Us
  7. Unbelievable
  8. Sex Education
  9. 13 Reasons Why: Season 3
  10. Raising Dion

Does it matter what shows are the most popular? Well for most of the shows, probably not because many of them have already been renewed. However, for You and Raising Dion, this status could be what pushes Netflix to order another season. While the latter hasn’t been as popular on social media, You season 2 has been a massive hit and this is bound to help the argument for a season 3.

With two limited series, When They See Us and Unbelievable, also making the list it does open the possibility of Netflix turning them into anthologies. News came out not too long ago that the latter was potentially going to be turned into an anthology series and its popularity would warrant the streaming service to seriously consider it.
