Netflix cancels Insatiable after two seasons–but are we that disappointed?

Insatiable has officially been canceled by Netflix after two seasons. But I have to say, I’m not all that shocked. Deadline reported the news earlier this week, but rumors of the cancellation had already begun circulating earlier this month.

Alyssa Milano shared news of the cancellation to a fan on Twitter earlier this month, and this week, she confirmed it. I absolutely get her sentiments over the cancellation, but is it really that surprising?

When Insatiable first premiered, it came under a lot of fire and criticism for its less than ideal message. The plot of the series was about a girl that was once overweight and eventually lost the weight after a freak accident, and then sought revenge on all those that wronged her.

It certainly sent across an aggressive impression on how girls should view their bodies and gave the wrong idea on how to handle bullying. Body shaming was at the heart of it, and it just wasn’t the type of story that felt appropriate for young viewers. As you can tell, I wasn’t a huge fan of the series and found it quite ridiculous at times.

This is why Netflix making the decision to cancel isn’t all that astonishing. However, despite the negativity around it, the series raked in a strong viewership. Of course, we don’t know the exact numbers but based on what we do know, Insatiable stuck around for two seasons for a reason.

But, alas, its run has come to an end, and we will never know the answers to some of our burning questions. You know, like who is Coralee’s baby daddy. But if I’m being honest, who the heck really cares?
