Kingdom: Season 2 – March 13

Kingdom is the cure for your zombie genre fatigue. Part South Korean epic, part historical drama, part buddy comedy, and part zombie apocalypse, there is literally nothing else like Kingdom out there. The series follows an exiled prince during the feudal era of Korea as he investigates a mysterious contagion spreading across the land and putting his very kingdom at risk due to the corruption and negligence of the ruling government.

During the course of the series, the prince comes into his own, growing from a spoiled snob to a leader of the people. Season one ended on a cliffhanger as the prince and his allies come to realize that it isn’t the sun that stops the zombie hoard, but the sun’s warmth. As spring moves into winter, the sun no longer prevents the dead from animating, making their struggle an endless battle without rest. The only chance for survival is to discover what caused the disease and manufacture a cure.

Altered Carbon: Resleeved – March 19

This is the Altered Carbon anime you didn’t know you needed. The long-awaited second season of Altered Carbon was finally released, and if you’re anything like me you probably binged it in two days just like you did season one. Will you never learn? Thankfully, Netflix is bringing us something to help us come down off that epically emotional season two ending. Altered Carbon: Resleeved fittingly comes from Cowboy Bebop writer Dai Sato, so you know the writing comes from a place of quality.

Although, Twitter users and anime fans take issue with the 3D animation, seeing it as a mark of low quality in the genre. I honestly can’t comment, but my sister is a 3D animator and she believes it depends on the context and how it’s used. She obviously doesn’t feel like her work is low quality by virtue of being 3D. My best friend, another anime fan, believes that 3D animation can feel a bit hokey, but it depends on how it’s used in collaboration with the writing and storytelling. I think it’s too soon to judge a series that hasn’t been released yet. Check it out and make your own judgment.
