The Mandalorian: Season 3 of the Disney Plus show is under way
By Monita Mohan
The Mandalorian hasn’t even returned for its second season yet, but the latest reports suggest that the showrunners are working on the third season.
The first original series on Disney Plus is set for a third go-around. The Star Wars spin-off show, The Mandalorian proved extremely popular when it aired in 2019 and was quickly picked up for a second season which is set to air on the streaming service this Fall. Variety reports that sources close to the Jon Favreau-run show say that the showrunners have begun working on material for a third season!
We don’t know yet if the current global situation will affect the release dates for The Mandalorian, but it is assumed the series will be unaffected since it had already begun wrapping up production when the global pandemic took hold.

The show’s production department requires quite a significant lead time, which is why pre-production on the third season is supposedly in progress. Early concepts are in place and writing for the third season is underway. Disney Plus has not officially confirmed the show will return for a third season as yet.
The first Star Wars spin-off of its kind, The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as the titular anti-hero, who is on a mission to kill and then protect The Child. Baby Yoda has taken the world by storm, and supporting characters like Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon piqued many viewers’ curiosity.
At its best The Mandalorian was a compelling and intelligent show, but the quality of the episodes was often uneven. The show must address that disparity in its sophomore season.
While there have been no updates on what the second season will focus on, the finale of the first season ended with a giant Easter Egg that connects the show with another fan-favorite Star Wars property – Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
To add more fuel to the fire about the connection, Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano, former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker on the animated series. How large a role will Ahsoka play in the return of the show?
The Mandalorian is currently streaming on Disney Plus. The second season of the show is set to arrive in October 2020.
