National Treasure fans, get excited! Not only is National Treasure 3 coming, but Disney Plus is developing a television series!

Jerry Bruckheimer is not done with the National Treasure franchise, not by a long shot. According to a recent interview with Collider, not only can fans of the treasure-hunting flicks expect National Treasure 3, but a TV series is also in the works at Disney Plus.

The article reveals that the theatrical film will follow the original cast while the Disney Plus series will follow a much-younger cast. This news isn’t too surprising. The majority of Disney Plus shows are aiming toward younger audiences, and it is very in line with the company’s plan to start fresh with up-and-coming actors.

Plus, it isn’t super likely that Nicolas Cage would do another television show right now after the recent announcement he would star as Joe Exotic in a scripted Tiger King limited series, a show that will mark his first-ever television project. That said, it would be amusing if he would at least make a cameo appearance.

More from Disney Plus

As for when we might expect to see the National Treasure series premiere on the streaming service, it might be sooner than anticipated.

The interview revealed that the series is “much further along” in the development process than the film, which is reportedly still in the early stages of being written.

The National Treasure franchise relies on heists and schemes as the main character, Benjamin Franklin Gates, traipses through America in search of lost and forgotten treasures.

It’s not yet clear what treasures the series might focus on, although the interview indicates it will be the “same concept” as the films. Does that mean it will be a reboot of the first movie? Or will they go in a different direction but keep the same overall plot? Will a group of teens try to steal the Declaration of Independence?
