A Gotham police-procedural spinoff of Matt Reeves’ The Batman is in works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, an untitled Gotham City police-procedural drama set in the same universe as Robert Pattinson’s “The Batman” is officially in the works at HBO Max and will be created by the director of the Batman film, Matt Reeves, and Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter.

Winter, who has been previously nominated for an Academy for his work on The Wolf of Wall Street, is set to write and executively produce the series. The Batman producer Dylan Clarke is also said to be involved in the project.

More from HBO Max

While the series doesn’t seem to have an official title as of yet, the series is rumored to be based on Gotham Central, a police procedural comic from Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka.

Gotham’s Cameron Monaghan shares excitement over The Batman spinoff.

Although this is not the first time we are seeing Gotham City PD getting s–t done on the small screen as Fox’s hit show Gotham starring Ben McKenzie followed the story of a young Jim Gordon’s rise within the ranks of Gotham PD and the origins of some of Gotham’s greatest rogues.

Gotham’s very own Joker, Cameron Monaghan, also shared his excitement over the series as soon as the news dropped.

And while we don’t know what the series is about or if Pattinson himself will appear one day or anything about the casting for that matter, we do know for sure that it will follow the detectives of Gotham PD working in the shadows of Pattinson’s Batman.

In an official statement by HBO Max, it was revealed that the series will be set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and “will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.” Further giving them more liberty and more opportunities to explore the forever compelling and complex characters of Gotham.”

Reeves said that the show is an amazing opportunity, not only in terms of expanding the vision of the world he is creating with Pattinson but to also explore it in the kind of depth and detail that movies could never because the runtime doesn’t allow them to. He also praised Winter for his part works in the crime genre.

The series will be produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho alongside Warner Bros. Television.

The Batman spinoff will be one of the many DC Shows coming to HBO Max, which includes an upcoming Green Lantern Corps series by Greg Berlanti and a Justice League Dark show by J.J. Abrams.
