2. Canceled TV shows: The Society

The Society was yet another series that was affected by the pandemic. Netflix delivered a one-two gut punch when they reversed renewals for both The Society and I’m Not Okay With This. I didn’t have the chance to watch the latter, but I was hooked on The Society and looking forward to seeing where the story would go.

The first season set up so many significant mysteries and left several unanswered questions, it’s a shame that we’ll now forever be left in the dark. I think this is one of those shows that could be wrapped up in a novel or comic spin-off, but it doesn’t seem likely that we’ll ever get closure at this point.

1. Canceled TV shows: Utopia

Utopia received a lot of criticism when it premiered on Amazon Prime primarily because the original UK series was a cult favorite. The American version, helmed by Gillian Flynn, had a lot of high expectations to meet and many did not feel the show succeeded. Others just weren’t impressed with Amazon’s timing given the obvious parallels to our real-world circumstances. Having not seen the original, I generally enjoyed Utopia quite a bit. There were some things I wasn’t a fan of, but I did get hooked and found myself genuinely wanting to know what would happen next.

The story is so dark, twisted and immense that we were left with tons of loose ends, cliffhangers and expectations for Season 2. It’s a serious shame we won’t get to see this story continue. And fans can’t even take much solace in the original show because it, too, was canceled after a very short run and it’s nearly impossible to find streaming anywhere, even for purchase.
