Kaley Cuoco unfortunately, lost the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical Series to Catherine O’Hara for her work as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek. While I love O’Hara and thought she was also deserving, it was Cuoco I was rooting for this year. She delivered a stellar turn in The Flight Attendant, the hit HBO Max series based on the book of the same name by Chris Bohjalian.

If you haven’t watched The Flight Attendant yet, what are you waiting for? The excellent dark comedy/thriller series was a late arrival on HBO Max, but it was excellent and swiftly renewed for a second season. The good news is, since the show is coming back for more, we can hope that Cuoco will get nominated again in the future and earn another chance to win!

The series followed Cuoco’s character, American flight attendant Cassie Bowden, on a trip to Bangkok where she gets drunk and sleeps with one of her flight passengers. The next morning she wakes up to a dead body beside her and soon after gets swept up into a dangerous conspiracy.

Cuoco excelled not only at the comedic beats of the series but the emotional and dramatic ones as well. Kaley Cuoco’s character is a reckless alcoholic with deep trauma that extends to her childhood and her relationship with her father. We all knew that Cuoco was an adept comedic actress given her years of starring on sitcoms like The Big Bang Theory and 8 Simple Rules, but she really brought her all to this role.

Kaley Cuoco loses the Golden Globe to Catherine O’Hara but we’re hopeful she’ll get another chance in the future!

Throughout more than a decade playing Penny on the long-running CBS sitcom, you’d think Cuoco would have at least gotten a few Emmy or Golden Globe nominations. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. She was consistently overlooked in favor of her male castmates so this nomination for The Flight Attendant feels like a good way to acknowledge her years of excellent work.

All of that said, it might just be fair that O’Hara finally won a Golden Globe for Schitt’s Creek, as the series was also ignored repeatedly by the Globes and as it’s done and completed with its sixth season, this was the actress’s last chance to win. Plus, Cuoco is a big fan of O’Hara’s, so that’s always nice to know the two women were rooting for each other!
