Is The Luminaries new tonight, April 4?
By Mads Lennon
The Luminaries is a popular new Starz series that has aired consistently for the past several Sunday nights on the premium cable network. Can you expect to see another new episode of The Luminaries tonight, April 5?
Sadly no, The Luminaries is over for now. Last week’s episode, which was the sixth of the series, functioned as the season (and potentially series) finale of the series. Thus far, The Luminaries has only been marketed as a limited series.
Based on the book by Eleanor Catton (who also wrote the show), the finale episode ended with Anna being tried for Crosbie’s murder. It wrapped up everyone’s storylines, from Anna and Emery’s to Lydia and Francis’s.
Instead of a new episode of the Eva Hewson-starring show, tonight Starz will air a new episode of its latest Australian import, The Gloaming starring Ewen Leslie (who played Crosbie on The Luminaries!) and Emma Booth. New episodes of Men in Kilts are also still airing!
Can we expect The Luminaries to return for another season?
I recently discussed this in a different article regarding a potential second season. It’s too early to tell right now, but there is currently no second season planned for the show.
Currently, it looks like Starz is focusing on other programs and they did not originally produce the series as it was actually produced by BBC Two in association with TVNZ, it’s a British-New Zealand-based series.
If it was going to get another season, it would likely come from the original production companies making that decision rather than Starz, who would then decide if they want to pick it up.
That said, if you’re eager to revisit the series, the entire season is now available to stream on the Starz app or through other services like YouTube TV, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video with the purchase of the Starz channel add-on.
