Genera+ion Season 2: Will there be another season?
By Taylor Gates
Genera+ion is a groundbreaking show following a diverse group of mainly LGBTQ+ high school students in Southern California. Throughout its first season, Genera+ion explored everything from immigration and teen pregnancy to divorce and coming out. Will there be a Genera+ion Season 2?
The show offers a fresh, funny, and authentic perspective and is one of the first shows to truly capture Gen Z’s voice, partially thanks to its co-creator, 19-year-old Zelda Barnz.
Fans couldn’t get enough of this wacky yet heartwarming dramedy when it premiered on HBO Max in March. From outgoing Chester (Justice Smith) to artsy Riley (Chase Sui Wonders), shy Greta (Haley Sanchez) to quirky Naomi (Chloe East), it wasn’t hard to find someone to relate to among this group of layered characters.
Thousands of fans fell in love with the show immediately, and now the question on everyone’s mind is: will there be a Genera+ion Season 2?
Genera+ion Season 2: HBO Max canceled the show earlier this week
Unfortunately, HBO Max canceled Genera+ion earlier this week, stating that there will not be a season 2 of the beloved show. Though no specific reason was given, low viewership could potentially be to blame. Despite mostly solid reviews, the show didn’t garner the same amount of buzz as shows like the Gossip Girl reboot.
Genera+ion Season 2: Will another network save it?
It’s not entirely unheard of for other networks to pick up a canceled show. For example, it has happened before with Brooklyn Nine-Nine and recently with Manifest and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Though there’s no word on whether Genera+ion will move forward somewhere else, Netflix is known for resurrecting the series so that it may be possible. Teen-centric CW or Freeform could be other potential fits, and it would fit in nicely alongside Amazon Prime’s The Wilds. We’ll have to wait and see.
Genera+ion Season 2: What would have happened?
As you’ll remember, Genera+ion season 1 ended on a big cliffhanger, with Chester seeing someone on the roof. Though we’ll never know for sure who it was, Zelda Barnz throws out some potential directions, including Sam, J, and Chester’s absent father.
Zelda also revealed that our favorite witchy trio Arianna, Delilah, and Naomi, would have gotten over their argument, and the Riley/Greta ship would have sailed, with Riley staying put instead of moving to Reno.
