By Mads Lennon
The winner of the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series has been announced at the Emmys 2021. But before we get into the award winner, we’re going to highlight who was the favorite and discuss some of the nominees.
This year’s race was a tough one but it felt like it came down to late Michael K. Williams for his excellent performance in HBO’s limited series Lovecraft Country, Giancarlo Esposito on The Mandalorian and Tobias Menzies on The Crown.
The Crown is an Academy favorite, but Williams was favored to win for Lovecraft Country. The actor has been nominated five times in the past for his work in various limited series such as Vice and When They See Us, it felt like it was time for him to win.
Other nominees included John Lithgow for HBO’s Perry Mason and multiple nominations for The Handmaid’s Tale, including O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella and Bradley Whitford. Chris Sullivan also scored a nod for This Is Us, although that always felt like a long shot to win.
