The following article contains SPOILERS for Supergirl Season 6, Episode 18

The Super Friends are able to get some luck with totems while Nyxly and Lex get romantically closer in this week’s episode from Supergirl Season 6.

Check out our recap of last week’s episode here!

This week’s episode of Supergirl kicks off right from the jump by bringing audiences answers to why William was meeting with Lex Luthor’s airhead goon last week in Otis. In The Tower, William is explaining to the Super Friends that Lex is giving Nyxly a Lexo-suit army to help the Imp princess defeat the heroes of National City and retrieve all of the totems. While they doubt Otis’s intentions and credibility, the Super Friends plan to use his new relationship with William to their advantage.

Right after Lena tells Alex and the others she found the perfect location for her Bachelorette party, William’s phone goes crazy with notifications. It turns out Andrea stole Lex’s personal journal where he eloquently professes his love for Nyxly, but she used William’s name on the By-Line, possibly hurting his journalistic reputation. While this story seems to bring Nyxly and Lex closer, William storms Andrea’s office and is rightfully ticked off. William verbally attacks his editor on a personal level after being used and abused himself the last couple of episodes for Andrea’s drive to be the number one publication.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 18: Revelations about Lex and the Hope Totem

Brainy makes the brave decision to call the 31st century to get some carefully curated answers about Lex and Nyxly. This leads to the Super Friends finding out what audiences already know: Lex and Nyxly are a power couple in the future until Nyxly dies. The heroes find Nyxly’s ship, and they board to try and stop the villains. They are able to retrieve the Dream Totem from Nyxly’s cuff — but not before spotting the Hope Totem that was thought to be destroyed in episode 15.

After their setback, Nyxly is angry with Lex since she keeps losing totems, but Lex tries to reassure her everything will be ok in the end. At their apartment, Alex and Kelly are cleaning up Esme, who accidentally made paint splatter with her powers after being ridiculed, when they find a picture of a rose on her upper back. Audiences know this means Esme is the love totem, but we do not know yet how this will impact the young alien or her adoptive mothers.

Back on his ship, Brainy is seen talking to a program that looks exactly like him in his Legion attire. It turns out the big brain that is his namesake is damaged, and our Brainy is being called upon to merge with it. This would mean he is going to cease to exist in any time period and lose his family and Nia. He wants to stay in the 21st century for as long as he can so he can ensure Lex and Nyxly are stopped, but that might not be up to him in the end.

Using Lex’s crystal ball, Nyxly finds the Truth Totem and undergoes the gauntlet. After expressing how she wants to be trusted, she passes the gauntlet and is informed she will be shown who is trustworthy. This power is very reminiscent of the Lasso of Truth, and she is able to find out Lex is being honest with his words and intentions.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 18: Friction between Alex and Kara

Everyone’s favorite adoptive moms arrive with their daughter at The Tower, and while Kelly takes Esme to the med bay to run some tests,  Alex and Kara have a very powerful conversation that has tons of undertones. Kara, who is used to hiding and once suppressed her powers, suggests that her sister do that for Esme. Alex explains times have changed, and she doesn’t want her daughter to hide who she is or be controlled. This dialogue about differing perspectives could easily be translated for a myriad of topics like sexuality, gender, nationality, and plenty of others, and that is very on-brand for Supergirl.

Andrea turns to one of her oldest friends in Lena to get some resolutions on who she is at her core. Lena does not tell Andrea what she wants to hear, but it is definitely what she needs to hear. Lena challenges her old friend to find out which path she wants to go down because only one’s self can be a true judge.

While trying to find Nyxly, Nia ends up discovering Brainy is going back to the future to save his species. They try to fight this development, but they both know they will be separated once this conflict with Nyxly and Lex is concluded. This scene pairs well with J’onn confronting Kara about why she is avoiding The Tower and Alex. J’onn suggests to Kara that she has an open conversation with her sister so they can have inner harmony and not leave anything unsaid. Before Kara can do that, however, Alex and Kelly leave with Esme for her school’s baking competition.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 18: Positives for the Super Friends…for now

Lena is able to find Nyxly’s ship in outer space, and so Supergirl and Martian Manhunter board the ship once again. Supergirl takes on Lex and Nxyly alone, while Martian Manhunter takes on Mitch and some Lexo-suit drones. The fighting ends up entering Nyxly’s ship into self-destruct mode, and everyone escapes with Supergirl grabbing the Hope Totem before the explosion.

The Tower is then filled with a lot of joy, with Alex, Kelly, and Esme returning with a blue ribbon and the Super Friends having every one of the five found totems in their possession. Before they head off to their party, Alex and Kara finally have their heart to heart and explain they both were projecting their insecurities on the other while understanding they were coming from a good place. They reconnect and prove why they are some of the best siblings on television today.

At the bachelorette party, everyone is enjoying a night off from saving the city and saving the world. Lena says it best when she states, “What’s the point in saving the world if you can’t enjoy it?” Brainy and Nia have a beautiful moment about enjoying the present even though the future might bring dread.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 18: Lex and Nyxly find the Love Totem

Lex and Nyxly begin to finally be on the same page about their romantic feelings for one another when the crystal ball informs her where the Love Totem is, and this “totem” is doing some celebratory baking with William while her mothers are having their bachelorette party. The villainous love birds go to The Tower, and before they arrive, William is notified of their arrival. He has Esme go hide, but he forms this command as if they are playing Hide and Seek to not frighten the young child.

Considering William’s by-line was used to expose Lex’s personal journal, the confrontation has a lot of personal tension behind it. Nyxly explores The Tower and ends up finding Esme and tricking the impressionable girl into going with her. Before Lex leaves, he shoots William down for leaking his journal. However, William was secretly recording everything and was able to send it to Andrea before he takes his last breath.
