1923 Premiere Review: 20 thoughts on 1923’s opening episode
By Shay McBryde
Taylor Sheridan’s highly awaited prequel to 1883 and third Yellowstone series 1923 is finally here. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review it.
If you thought the trailer looked amazing, then you are going to be surprised. It surpasses everything you expected and more.
It’s thrilling and interesting to see all these members of the Dutton family. What I can say is there is no character quite like Cara Dutton and never will be again.
Upon my take, here are 20 thoughts to get you ready and excited for the premiere on Sunday:
1. You don’t want to go head-to-head with Mrs. Dutton.
2. Elsa nostalgia for those 1883 fans.
3. Hello Jim Corbett.
4. John Wayne has arrived.
5. Your eyes will immediately widen at Banner and the balls on him.
6. Rules. Men of honor. Respect your land and thy neighbor.
7. Jacob is definitely my kind of God.
8. A King, a Queen, and their Kingdom.
9. Cara has that Irish voice and comedy we know and love.
10. Sister Mary has too many bad habits.
11. Father please have some Mercy.
12. Women have come a long, long way.
13. No wedding bells ringing just yet.
14. Helen Mirren and Cara Dutton is The Boss.
15. Their love has only grown stronger through the years.
16. In the doghouse.
17. Aunt Cara to the rescue!
18. No rules for the wicked.
19. Like father like son.
20. Cara is the mother, wife, friend, and aunt you can only dream of.
Fans of 1883 and Yellowstone will be pleased. It’s fascinating to see all the family branches start to connect and align while you are watching.
The pacing could be a little more satisfying, but that’s to be expected as all the characters in a premiere episode need to be introduced. You can sense the impending hardships of the Great Depression and Prohibition rising.
Jacob doesn’t want a range war, but it seems to be inevitable. Everyone is going through a hard time already, yet we all know what has yet to happen, will be even more devastating.
1923 will take off on Sunday December 18 on Paramount +. It will air alongside season 5 of Yellowstone but will only be available to Paramount Plus subscribers.
