Norman Reedus says The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is art in the making
By Shay McBryde
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is just a month away from its stellar premiere. After a decade on The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus is relishing in the new show set in France. It has a new vibe and a new feel.
The show gives a complete reset for Daryl Dixon. He must now adjust to life in Europe with a new language, and new people, in a land that is beyond foreign to him. On top of that, he must battle the elements of apocalyptic France including some variant walkers who are not going to make it easy on the archer.
The series sets sail on September 10 on AMC and lately, fans have been spoiled with teasers to get the viewership excited for its debut. But high ratings are apparently something Norman Reedus doesn’t have to rely on this time around. The actor spoke with EW before the strike about his upcoming spinoff.
"”I feel like we’re not cranking it out for numbers on a Sunday night. We’re making art, and there’s moving dialogue.”"
"”I found myself saying some of the same lines over and over, and did all the other sorts of storylines that we had done before, maybe with another character or whatever. Now, we’re not following anything.”"
Reedus remained tight-lipped about any further details of his solo show. He claims he cannot do it justice with words. It’s beautifully touching and amazing to watch and listen to this intimate story of Daryl Dixon embarking on his French journey. Along the way meeting people he connects with and helps them reach a greater purpose. Daryl Dixon will learn more about faith and garner an enhanced fascination for the hope of humanity.
"“There’s something really personal about what we are doing, and it just feels so right. We have all the elements of The Walking Dead that people love. There are tears and screams and it’s full of all the things that original show had..especially those early years of The Walking Dead..but it’s also unique and going to speak for itself.”"
From the words of Reedus, the spinoff does sound refreshing. We have seen Daryl Dixon care for children before. In the later seasons of The Walking Dead, we saw Daryl care for Rick’s children, especially when Michonne left. The hero seems to always find himself in a situation to help children. We’ve witnessed him do the same with Henry and with Lydia.
However, this spinoff is on an all-new scale with an all-new purpose. It remains to be seen just how much different this spinoff will be. Viewers will have their own opinions. Between new storylines and the picturesque backdrop of Paris, it has all the making to be something uniquely impressive.
Catch the season premiere on September 10 on AMC and AMC Plus at 9 PM ET.
