While the temperature is still far too hot, it’s already September. And you know what that means? A three-day weekend is coming your way. What will you do with all this extra time? I have an idea for you.
When you’re done playing outside with the kids or shopping all those sales at the mall, sit down and check out these five great shows to watch over Labor Day weekend!
Some of the shows have a few seasons, and others are pretty short, but any one you pick will no doubt be a fun time.

Ted Lasso
Hands down, Ted Lasso is the kind of series I will always recommend to anyone at any time, no matter what.
The series mainly follows the titular character, Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis), as he takes on the job of a lifetime — coaching a men’s soccer team in Richmond, England. The only issue is that he’s not really a soccer coach. He’s actually a Division III football coach, and he’s in for the ride of his life.
What makes Ted Lasso such a great show is that it's not only funny as heck, but it also teaches valuable lessons about life, happiness, romance, and more. The characters are easily lovable, and it’s a series that, without a doubt, will make you smile from your head to your toes. There have been many times when I’ve been smiling one moment and then just crying the next — happy tears, I mean. Only ever happy tears with Ted Lasso.
Three full seasons are available to binge on Apple TV with the fourth season airing weekly. If you haven’t checked out this great Apple TV show, now is the time.

House of the Dragon
While I would normally put Game of Thrones on here, I think that series deserves at least a week of dedication, not just three days. House of the Dragon, however, is only three seasons long (so far) and can be completed in a long weekend.
Set a couple of centuries before Game of Thrones, this prequel mainly follows the legendary Dance of the Dragons from George R.R. Martin's book Fire and Blood, also known as the Targaryen Civil War. Two claimants to the throne, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), battle it out with their own families and allies to see who will win.
I don’t think you need to watch Game of Thrones to enjoy this series, and if you love fantasy shows, this is a great one to check out. The political intrigue is enough to keep you interested. All three seasons are available on HBO Max, and a fourth is coming in 2028.

Adults
If you’re looking for a super silly friends sitcom that I personally love more than Friends, then Adults is the one for you. This series follows five friends living together in a house while someone’s parents are away. They’re all in their twenties and just struggling in life but also trying to make the most of it, learning lessons along the way.
I absolutely love this series and think it’s absolutely perfect for a weekend binge. Both seasons only have eight episodes, and they aren’t that long, so you’re not going to be sitting down for hours and hours and hours of content. But what really makes Adults such a great series to watch is that it’s lighthearted in the best ways but also knows when to get serious.
It pokes fun at common adult situations but also knows when to spend the right amount of time on a subject, which is what makes it such a standout sitcom. For that, it gets my full support and attention. Both seasons are available to stream on Hulu.

The Bear
Okay, so The Bear is a little longer, but I think it’s worth the time to watch. The premise follows Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), who travels back home to Chicago to save his brother’s sandwich shop after his brother dies but, of course, runs into problems with his family who work there.
Carmy is also a trained chef — like, he worked in a Michelin-starred restaurant and everything. He is locked and loaded culinarily, and that kind of perfectionism causes sparks to fly — and not in a good way.
Hulu classifies this as a “comedy,” but it’s honestly more of a drama than anything. There are certainly plenty of darkly comedic moments, but the dramatic parts make up for it. And what really makes this such a good show to watch is the food. If you’re a foodie, this is the kind of series that will leave you hungry for more.
You can watch all five seasons of The Bear on Hulu.

The Haunting of Hill House
Last but not least, I want to give a shoutout to The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Based on the book of the same name by Shirley Jackson, this miniseries created by Mike Flanagan is all about a family that comes back together after the death of their youngest sibling while they relive trauma from their childhood house that haunted them.
This is the perfect series if you want something quick but also extremely well-told, and the perfect show to get you in the mood for spooky season. It can get a little scary at times, so keep the kids away. But if horror shows are your thing, I cannot recommend The Haunting of Hill House more. It’s available to stream on Netflix.
Labor Day weekend is sure to be filled with so much fun stuff to watch. And I, for one, feel like it’s time to binge!
