It's been nearly two months since FX and Hulu's hit comedy series Adults finished airing its second season in August 2026, but the show continues to be just as viral even when new content isn't dropping. We still have "Hiccup (Body Go Crazy)" by Carly with a Y stuck in our heads, and we're still wondering what's next for the chaotic group in the still not-yet-renewed third season.
While we continue to wait patiently for the good news that's sure to come following the incredible viewership surge that Adults season 2 enjoyed on Hulu, Owen Thiele spoke with Variety writer Marc Malkin about what could be in the cards for his character Anton and Jack Innanen's Paul Baker in a potential season 3. Thiele shares fans' curiosity about what a relationship looks like.
"Oh my God, I don’t know. Honestly, the writers have not told us anything, and they do this on purpose because of things like this," Thiele said to Variety. "If they had told me, I would have said, 'Marc, they’re going to be together. They’re getting married officially.' I think Paul Baker and Anton have found a really beautiful way to communicate that feels very honest and open and real. But I’m wondering what that would be like if they were actually in a relationship."
In the second season, Anton and Paul Baker continued to be in their "fake" marriage to keep Paul Baker in the United States, though they continued to fight the attraction they both felt for each other. Paul Baker and Issa's relationship experienced growing pains, leading to an awkward almost-threesome with Anton and the couple's eventual break-up. The season finale found Anton and Paul Baker acting on and admitting their feelings in a real way, with a kiss that earned Issa's blessing.

Thiele spoke to where the pair ended up in season 2, musing on how they'll move forward once their unspoken attraction has been spoken: "I think right now it’s easy for them to communicate because they have this kind of will-they or won’t-they tension that’s building. But once that’s gone, what will happen? Anton’s crazy. Anton yells a lot. He’s constantly screaming. So I don’t know. I don’t know."
Adults season 2 didn't answer any definitive questions about the status of Anton and Paul Baker's relationship, even with the kiss, which means we still won't know if they're together together until season 3 gets the green light and eventually premieres. Naturally, we can assume that they would be at the very least more than friends this time around, and that's also true for their other roommates.
In the season 2 finale, as Issa takes a hook-up to her room, she overhears her roommates hooking up across the hall, assuming it's Anton and Paul Baker. But when the door opens, it's Billie and Samir, who have apparently decided to act on their own sexual and/or romantic tension that has been an undercurrent of their relationship since the series first premiered.
The third season definitely has a lot to speak for when it eventually arrives (let's manifest, people!), though we probably should expect for the writers to still surprise us rather than leaning in the direction that we would expected based on where we left off. Just because certain characters have been paired off and kissed in the season 2 finale, doesn't mean we know what happens.
Even though we had hope that FX and Hulu would announce a renewal sooner this time around (and still could), there's no cause for concern yet. The first season debuted in May 2025, and the show wasn't renewed for season 2 until October 2025. That's a five-month window that we're currently still in, but we simply can't imagine that Adults season 3 isn't an inevitably given its massive success.
