Adults star has a wild guest star in mind for season 3, and New Yorkers will love it

If this person appeared on the show, I think all of New York would lose their minds.

The FX comedy series Adults has been at the top of the charts on Hulu, and with the guest stars flowing during season 2, one of its stars has an idea for who he’d want to see in season 3 — and it's a New York favorite.

In an interview with the social media team at the Empire State Building (of all places), the stars were asked who their dream guest star would be. The actor who plays Samir, Malik Elassal, admitted he’d want one huge guest star — and that would be the current New York City Mayor, Zohran Mamdani.

“Dude, let’s get Zohran on the show… like we have his contact information,” Elassal said. “Well, he’s from Queens. He would just be, like, campaigning still, and then Anton’s like, ‘Honey, you don’t have to do this. Get in here!’ And then we just have a night. And I feel like we could make this happen. We have mutuals. It’s crazy to have mutuals with the mayor.”

Honestly, this isn’t that wild an idea, for a few reasons. It’s something that, as a fan of Adults, I could easily see happening.

Why Zohran Mamdani could appear on the show

First, Elassal is correct — Mamdani is from the New York area. Although he was born in Uganda, Mamdani moved to the city as a child and has lived there ever since. Adults takes place in Queens, and Mamdani's campaigns started there, so it makes sense that he would be around that area in the show's timeline.

However, Adults isn’t filmed in New York. It’s actually filmed in Canada, over in Toronto. But maybe a simple flight over the border would make for a good cameo.

Another thing is that Adults focuses on plenty of generational issues that Mamdani himself has addressed within his administration. The show often does it in a hilarious way, but it’s still there regardless. Mamdani’s political campaigns gear towards a younger crowd because his views align with theirs, so having him on a friend-sitcom that follows twenty-somethings would be a perfect fit.

A third reason is that politicians appearing on television shows isn’t that rare. Al Gore appeared on the hilarious Tina Fey-created series 30 Rock. Joe Biden, who later became United States President, appeared on Parks and Recreation, as did former First Lady Michelle Obama. Even former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani had a guest appearance on Seinfeld.

So if Mamdani had a guest role on Adults, it wouldn’t be that shocking. Mamdani has been pretty active on social media and has consistently put himself out there in public to interact with his citizens. From my perspective, he seems like a pretty down-to-earth person, so I could totally see him doing a cameo for something like this.

Adults hasn’t been renewed for season 3 yet, but because the show has trended so consistently and had a steady stream of guest stars over season 2, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get an update soon. In fact, one of the creators of the show, Ben Kronengold, teased in an interview with TV Insider that a sixth housemate might even show up if season 3 is ordered.

“We are aware that six is often the magic number for friend group comedies. We’re always thinking about that kind of thing a lot.”

Does that mean that Mamdani might be the sixth housemate? A girl can only dream. I know that if he at least ended up campaigning in the next season of Adults somehow, I would love this show even more than I already do.

You can watch both seasons of Adults on Hulu now.
