Silo has become one of the most talked-about and impactful sci-fi shows of recent times. Based on Hugh Howey’s best-selling trilogy, the Apple TV show follows the events of Wool, Shift, and Dust. The series recently concluded its highly anticipated season 3, with the upcoming fourth season set to be the final entry in the story.
While fans will sorely miss Juliette and her fight for freedom from Silo 1, recent rumors suggest viewers won’t necessarily have to say goodbye to the franchise. There is news of a potential spin-off series in the works that might be based on a new set of books by Howey. Here’s what everyone’s talking about regarding the possible Silo spin-off show.

The new spin-off series might be based on a new trilogy from Howey
Despite the love Silo has received as a top-notch modern-day sci-fi saga, the series is set to conclude next year with a fourth and final season. Well, all good things must come to an end, but that doesn’t mean the franchise’s story is over. Rebecca Ferguson’s Juliette Nichols will likely seal the deal by confronting the sinister minds behind the silos in season 4.
However, if you look at the bigger picture, the Silo series has only scratched the surface of its dystopian world, focusing mainly on one silo’s struggles. There’s a gigantic space that the franchise has yet to expand into by exploring either the “Before Time” or by delving into the power dynamics of other silos. On the subject of other silos, rumor has it that the potential spin-off show will likely discover the events happening in Silo 40, presumably in the same timeframe in which the current series is set.
In a recent Reddit AMA, Howey was bombarded with questions about the future of a potential spin-off series, to which his response was:
“You could go one of three ways, I think: another silo during the same timeframe (like Silo 40, which I'm writing about now). Or more of the before-times (how we got here, how people tried to stop it or survive). Or the after, which we can't talk about until after season 4.”
In other words, Howey already has a story and concept for a spin-off show in the works, and Silo 40 could pave the way for a new era in the franchise. The concurrent storylines are the weapon Howey will use to keep fans engaged because, for now, we only know one side of the picture.
There’s Silo 18, which is leading the current rebellion against Silo 1, but we know from season 3, episode 10 that only a handful of silos remain. This means that in the course of 300 years, other silos might also have gotten close to freedom or may have aided events that shaped the current movement. Exploring the social chaos of another silo that may, at some point, connect to the main timeline could be what keeps Silo alive even after its fateful finale.

According to insider Sigmund Judge (via SFFGazette), Apple is already waltzing towards the pre-production phase that is reportedly set to begin later this year. The new spin-off series will be based on Howey’s upcoming trilogy, Silo 40, set to release next summer.
It all sounds convenient and exciting, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Fans are particularly skeptical of the possibility because Howey himself has denied claims of a spin-off series in the works. What’s more, the author is still in the middle of finishing his work, so it is unlikely that Apple is moving forward with a project based on incomplete source material. However, given that Silo has already rearranged the chronology of events from the books, it wouldn't be entirely surprising if a potential spinoff took a similarly unconventional approach to its storytelling.
Moreover, Silo 40’s story may not feel too detached from the original, since Howey has already established that the events in both trilogies will run concurrently. Silo 40’s story will reportedly cover events taking place before Wool and go beyond the aftermath of Dust. So, a mix of a prequel and sequel dropping right after Silo season 4 would be a treat for the fans. Until then, all three seasons of Silo are available for streaming on Apple TV, with the final outing slated for July 9, 2027.
