Silo season 3 finale was followed by a jaw-dropping glimpse into the chaos that will come in the fourth and final season of Apple TV’s hit sci-fi dystopian saga. Because of back-to-back season filming, Silo will return in less than a year with season 4, concluding its mystery-filled story. Fans were treated to a full-fledged trailer drop that offered a substantial look at how Juliette’s quest for survival will proceed.
In the closing moments of season 3, episode 10, we see Troy confront Juliette at the forward vault door through the voice modulator, asking her to put an end to her investigation. Juliette momentarily agrees, but she secretly reveals that her real plan is to ensure every silo’s survival by taking down Silo 1. Meanwhile, Daniel, aka Troy, learns his former wife's name, and it seems to trigger his memories.
Coming back to Silo season 4, it looks like the show will take things up a notch, moving beyond the dual timeline to finally have these characters cross paths. Here’s a detailed breakdown of everything you may have missed in the action-packed trailer.
Helen’s Silo 18 origins
The trailer begins with a glimpse of the fateful nuclear blast whose origin is yet to be revealed. Helen is standing in the line of fire, but she’s saved by Everett and dragged into Silo 18 as the door shuts. Later, we get a quick peek at the early days of life inside the silos. Helen is featured in another clip alongside other residents wearing overalls and looking at the cafeteria screen that reads “Welcome to Silo Living.”
Silo season 4 will probably stick to the dual timeline approach for a while until the story catches up to the present. We’ll probably only get flashbacks of Helen’s life in Silo 18 and maybe her role in uncovering the truth, given she wouldn’t have just easily accepted the silo life. She could have been one of the earliest silo rebels who questioned the underground society’s existence or maybe tried to find a way back to Daniel.
Per Stensen in the Before Times
As for one of the Silo Project’s founders, the shot of Per Stensen in the trailer is a bit of a mystery. We see a brief glimpse of Stensen, who looks like he’s working out at his place above ground, presumably in the Before Times, if we’re to believe the world was truly destroyed.
He looks at a group of screens all reporting strange incidents around the world, specifically of blue whales washing ashore. Judging by the look on his face, the multiple news reports may indicate oncoming climate change, or they could be a lethal side effect of the nanotech.
We think the moment is significant because this could be when Per Stensen strengthens his resolve and goes full throttle with the Silo Project. His worst nightmares about humanity’s destruction may be coming true, and this is when he proposes, possibly to Thurman, his vision of the underground society.
Rosalind and Anna Thurman’s shift
There’s a shot of Rosalind and Anna in her office in the trailer, and they look worried. Anna specifically seems as if she has recently been awakened from cryosleep, and it looks as though she was rapid-sequenced. It could be because of Victor’s suicide or because of the alarming situation in Silo 18.
Then the screen cuts to another shot of Thurman in the main room with Henry and the others as they witness a blast on the screen. This could be linked to the next scene, as we see Teddy trying to blow open what looks like Silo 18’s forward vault door.
The intercutting scenes may indicate the escalating situation in Silo 18 as residents try to find their way through the tunnels. Thurman must have been especially brought in to deal with the onslaught, but it seems that Silo 1 will be at the losing end of this battle.
Contact is made with other silos
One of the earliest shots in the Silo season 4 trailer is of Sheriff Billings. He’s apparently on a screen that Silo 18 has been able to broadcast to other silos, proving that they aren’t alone. Holding his baby in hand, Billings addresses the citizens of the silos on their display screens to tell them they are not alone and that the real villain out there is not the toxic gas but Silo 1.
Billings basically lays it all out, informing the other residents, who are shocked to see the sheriff’s face on the display, that Silo 18 survived the Safeguard and they’re alive because of Juliette Nichols. This scene is crucial to the story, as the video message is a clear declaration of war against Silo 1 and could be one of the earliest scenes in the season. This could set Silo 1 into panic mode, making them all gather in the control room.
Silo 1 might flood Silo 18
Daniel/Troy let it slip in the season 3 finale that they can still initiate the Safeguard through the forward vault gate, the same gate that Lukas found in the tunnels. This could be the door that leads directly to Silo 1 or the one that intersects with other silos.
The trailer features the Deep Down a couple of times because prying it open will be essential to Juliette’s movement. However, it could also be the door that connects a particular cluster, and in this case, it could also be connecting Silo 17 and 18.
Since Silo 17’s lower levels are underwater, the water rushing through the tunnels in one of the scenes could be from Silo 17. Since Juliette promised the kids and Lukas that she'd bring them back, the attempt could have triggered a low-level flood in Silo 18’s lower levels.
We see Knox running away with a few more residents as the water gushes in and sweeps them away. It’s also possible that Silo 17’s forward vault door was opened by Silo 1 to flood Silo 18, blocking their attempts to reach them.
Drones attack Silo 18
There are two very interesting scenes involving drones in the Silo season 4 trailer. Firstly, we see Susan, aka Charlotte, wide awake from her cryo sleep, and she’s preparing a drone in Silo 1 that’s named ‘Grover.’ There are other words printed on it, but it’s hard to understand the significance of those names or the scene, for that matter.
However, we see drones again as they attempt to enter Silo 18 and two squeeze through the closing ramp gates. Juliette, armed and ready, fires at the drone to protect the people. It’s not yet confirmed if it’s the same drone that Charlotte’s piloting, but if it is, it could mean that somehow Charlotte may get involved with Juliette’s rebellion.
Juliette meets Troy in Silo 1
One of the most exhilarating scenes in the entire trailer would definitely be Juliette and Daniel Keene coming face-to-face inside the tunnels. The shot focuses on Juliette, who looks like she made it to the other side of the vault. She holds a gun and what looks like a bloody drive that she may have used on someone.
She points the gun at someone approaching her, and as the camera focuses on the figure, it turns out to be Daniel/Troy. She asks who the person is, and he replies, after a long pause, that he doesn’t know. The trailer ends on this juicy cliffhanger that has everyone excited for what’s to come when two worlds collide.
The past meets the present, and it’s the most phenomenal thing the show will offer to the viewers. It’s hard to tell if they planned this meeting or if it was just a coincidence, but we think this is just the tip of the iceberg. This scene might be the beginning of something—a rebellion that Silo 1 will never forget.
