Well, good people of Westeros, our watch has nearly ended, at least for now. Tonight, House of the Dragon season 3 comes to a close after what has truly been an incredible season.
While season 2 might have had some shortcomings, season 3 has more than made up for them with HBO delivering an epic season with a stretch of amazing episodes. Sure, there were a few slower episodes, but as a whole this has perhaps been the show’s strongest season yet. There have been countless epic moments, and that is going to continue tonight with the season 3 finale.
We’re bracing for what could be one of the show’s most heart-pounding episodes yet, and we’re also fearing the worst for some of our favorite characters. But that’s part of the reason why we love this show!
As we head into the finale, the one thing we know for sure is that the season 3 finale has the chance to redeem the show’s awful season 2 finale, which left us more than a little underwhelmed. In fact, we’d argue that the season 3 finale has the chance to be one of the best final episodes in the entire franchise so far. It’s an episode that fans won’t want to miss, so let’s go over the key details to ensure you don’t miss a minute of the action.
What time does House of the Dragon season 3 episode 8 come out?
As has been the case this season, the House of the Dragon season 3 finale will release at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and on HBO Max. Now, there is a chance the episode could drop a few minutes early on HBO Max, as we have noticed a few instances this season in which the episode arrived slightly before 9 p.m. ET, but only by a few minutes. So if you want to roll the dice on refreshing your HBO Max app before the clock strikes 9 p.m., there is a slight chance you might see the episode up a little early.

We’ll be closing out the season with our longest episode of House of the Dragon season 3. HBO’s listings reveal the episode will be about 1 hour and 15 minutes long, which will make it the longest episode of season 3. The previous record holder for this season’s longest episode was episode 5, which clocked in at 1 hour and 7 minutes long.
We've actually been getting fed quite nicely this season, as only one episode of the third season came in under an hour long! The shortest episode of the season came with episode 3, which had a runtime of 57 minutes.
House of the Dragon season 3 is not the last season
While House of the Dragon season 3 ends tonight with the release of the finale, the good news is that this is not the final season of the show! There is another season coming our way, which will serve as the final chapter of the show. That’s right, we’re in the home stretch of the show.
Season 4 will serve as the closing chapter for House of the Dragon, which means that season 4 is sure to be a brutal one as the Dance of the Dragons nears its conclusion. The scripts for the final season have been sent to HBO for review, and filming on season 4 is expected to begin sometime in early 2027, which means we likely won’t see the final season of House of the Dragon until 2028.
It’s going to be another long wait, but we’re sure it’ll be worth it, and we’re excited to see how the show lands the dragon (see what I did there). We fully expect the season 3 finale will bring about some major developments to help pave the way for the final season.
