With two episodes remaining in season 3, My Adventures with Superman gears up for the finale. Episode 9 starts off immediately after the cliffhanger from the last episode and continues to raise the stakes for the Super gang.
With the future's safety in the balance, the gang will have to fight even harder to ensure a better tomorrow.
Clark fights for his powers
After being knocked out by the Superclone, Clark wakes up in the Fortress of Solitude to find a handful of Kryptonian bots. One of the bots reveals himself to be Brainiac, but not the same one from season 2. He's the uncorrupted Brainiac from Old Krypton and claims that he can give what Clark seeks. Clark wants his powers back, but the Brainiac bot says that first Clark must prove himself to be a conqueror. Clark is hesitant but asks what he has to do. The bot says that Clark has to learn what strength is, and a wave of snow transforms the fortress into a tundra wasteland. The bot claims that if Clark proves his strength in this simulation of Ancient Krypton, his powers will be returned to him.
Brainiac has taken Clark to Krypton's ancient past with a purpose. He expels a lecture on how the ancient Kryptonians were primative creatures without flight, but when space invaders came, the Kryptonians conquered them. Able to adapt the invaders' knowledge, the Kryptonians learned the powers of flight and strength, transforming their planet. Clark's test is to face the invaders and obliterate them, just as his ancestors once did. Clark asks if this is real, saying he doesn't want to hurt anyone. Brianiac says that his enemies are as real as he is, and if Clark dies here, he will really die.
Brainiac disappears right as a flash of light signals to Clark that the invaders have arrived. He travels down to their ship and encounters the aliens. They begin to battle, with the invaders shooting at Clark with laser guns. Clark fends them off with his sword and shield, but the invaders are formidable. As he fights, Clark begins to feel some of his powers return, but only fleetingly. One of the invaders slams into Clark, knocking them both off the cliffside.
Lois struggles after the fight
Back in the city, the remaining gang recuperates after the battle. Jimmy reveals that Kara is still alive but badly injured. They don't know how to heal her. Lara asks where Clark went, but Amanda Waller interrupts. She claims that she's taking control over the assets, meaning the two Super children. She says that when the monster returns, she needs the kids taking orders from the American government, but Lois argues back that the kids aren't soldiers. Waller states that no one is coming to save them, and wearily, Lois agrees.
In an infirmary, Jimmy sits by Kara's bedside. Lois speaks to her kids, claiming that she and Waller have a plan to defeat the Eradicator and send the kids home to the future. Jonathon questions where Clark is, and Lois reveals that he has left to recover his powers. Jonathon and Lara argue over who to listen to. Lois is fed up with Jonathon's attitude and puts him in his place, but it only drives her son further away. He flies off, leaving Lois and Lara alone.
Lois scrambles to find a way to fix her many problems. She asks Lara for advice, and the young girl is shocked that Lois doesn't know what to do. In her future, Lara knows Lois as the unrelenting General Lane, someone who always has a plan. Current Lois doesn't know how to fight the monster, bring back Jonathon, and keep her future protected. Lara doesn't know how to make a decision like this, and Lois tells her to trust herself. She hands the girl a compass, and Lara laughs, revealing a similar one that she wears around her neck. She says that General Lane gave her the same pep talk right before the mission to travel to the past. They hug in a sweet mother-daughter moment.
Kara wakes up
In the infirmary, Kara wakes up from her coma. She realizes that she lost the battle but then notices Jimmy asleep beside her. Jimmy wakes and is ecstatic to see Kara awake. He hugs her, but Kara asks why he's in the tent with her. Lois arrives with two hotdogs, saying that Jimmy hasn't left the tent the entire time Kara's been unconscious. Kara asks why, and Jimmy says that he's not going to leave her alone again. Kara's stomach growls and she scarfs down the food. Lois asks how she feels, and Kara reveals that she's ready to fight. Lois says that there's no fight just yet, but she needs Kara's help talking to Jonathon.
On the moon, Jonathon has hidden away from everyone. He throws a rock around the circumference of the moon, but Kara catches it. Jonathon wants to be left alone, but Kara encourages him to talk instead of running. Jonathon reveals that he's not angry at Kara or anyone else but is angry at himself. He went off mission, he got Lara injured, and he failed to do what he was assigned. He feels like a failure who can never live up to his father's image. Kara tells him this is incorrect, saying that she won't give up on Jonathon. Her words are enough to bring Jonathon back to the city.
Jonathon states that he won't take orders from Lois or Waller, but Lois stops him with a hug. She's just happy her son's back. The moment is interrupted by Slade, who's here to get the kids. Lex has found a temporal anomaly, and the kids might have to fight once more.
Clark chooses another path
Clark wakes up at the bottom of the cliff. He and the invader survive, but both are winded from the fall. The invader notices Clark and attacks him, each of them injuring the other. Clark feels his powers returning, with red lightning surrounding him, but when he almost kills the invader, Clark pauses. He doesn't want to hurt anyone. Instead, he uses his sword as a splint for the invader's injured arm, saying that he wants to be friends instead of enemies.
Clark and the invader climb up the mountainside as allies. The invader is more injured than it seems, and the two find shelter in a cave. A large creature prowls outside, dragging the invader out of the cave. Clark and the creature fight, and Clark feels his powers surge again. He throws the creature off the cliff, but once more, his powers fade. Clark carries the invader on his shoulders, saying they both can make it home.
Clark approaches the other invaders, saying he doesn't want to fight. He realizes that the aliens have a camp set up with young children and families. They're not invaders, but refugees. The aliens pull out weapons, but Clark doesn't want to fight them. His powers begin to surge again, and Brainiac's voice compels Clark to kill them. The bot argues that they've already died once, and with a flash of red, Clark's body eminates the red lightning again. But Clark rejects the power, saying he won't murder these people to satisfy Brainiac's wishes. The injured alien tells the others to stand down, de-escalating the tension. Clark has defeated the trial his own way, but Brainiac isn't pleased.
Back in the Fortress, Brainiac laments Clark's weakness. He says that the weak must serve the strong, that the whole universe is built on that principle. If this principle is not followed, what order is there for the bots to follow? Clark realizes that the bots are the aliens from the past, that they've been transformed into the eternal servants of Krypton. The bots surround Clark, holding him down to kill him, but the Super Clone snaps out of his mind control. The clone screams, blasting the bots away, and unleashes his true power.
Lex has a plan
Waller takes the gang to a military base to meet Lex. Lex reveals that the Eradicator is coming to the base in less than 48 hours. Waller isn't wasting any time and sets off preparing for the attack. She lays out a plan, but Lois interrupts her. Jonathon and Lara will fight but will be given orders by Kara only. Waller asks who decided this, and Lois and Kara stand together, saying that they did. They'll only fight if it's on their terms, and Waller begrudgingly agrees.
Together, the base prepares for the oncoming attack. Kara trains Lara and Jonathon while Waller calls for reinforcements. Livewire and Heatwave join the fight, warmly welcomed by Lois. New weapons are forged, giant robots are assembled, and morale seems to be high. Lex supervises from afar, unknowingly watched by Jimmy.
Late at night, Jimmy catches Lex trying to run away from the base. Lex claims he knows when to abandon a sinking ship, but Jimmy says he needs to face the problems Lex created. Lex doesn't want the aliens to rule over humans, but Jimmy tells him that it's time for Lex to step up. He needs to become the hero he pretends to be or admit that he's the true villain.
The next morning, the army assembles. Waller asks where Lex is, and for a moment, Jimmy thinks he ran off. But Luthor reveals himself, showing that he took Jimmy's advice and decided to stay. A flash of energy brings their attention as the Eradicator emerges. Jonathon jumps ahead and slices the being in half, but it only creates another threat. Jonathon is slammed into the ground, easily overcome by the new threat.
What might happen next
The My Adventures with Superman season 3 finale arrives on Sunday, Aug. 16. It promises an action-packed end to the season.
With the threat of the Eradicator, it's likely that the next battle will be the hardest for the gang to overcome. Superman will likely regain his powers in time to join the fight, along with the Super Clone. But the fate of the future is still uncertain, and audiences can only hope that Superman and his family will succeed.
