There are so many great broadcast and streaming shows making a grand return in 2024! After months of projects being delayed due to the Hollywood strikes, we're starting to get TV back. And isn't that just the best feeling!?

While there's a lot of shows to look forward to seeing once again this year, there's some that aren't coming back at all until 2025. And there are others that we think probably aren't going to return for a number of reasons. Though there hasn't been confirmation from their studios yet, we can make some educated guesses. Here's a few shows we don't think are coming back in 2024:

  • One Piece season 2 (live-action) on Netflix
  • Silo season 2 on Apple TV+
  • The Handmaid's Tale season 6 on Hulu
  • The Morning Show season 4 on Apple TV+
  • The Buccaneers season 2 on Apple TV+
  • Citadel season 2 on Prime Video

So why is it unlikely we'll see new seasons of these series' in 2024? We break it all down for you below!

One Piece season 2 on Netflix

Adapting video games into television shows has been a popular choice in the industry lately. And I'll be honest. It's paying off! Just look at how popular The Last of Us is. Another series that got the same treatment is One Piece when it debuted in August 2023 on Netflix. And now, us fans are waiting for the second season.

Unfortunatley, it's probably likely that One Piece season 2 isn't going to be arriving this year. The scripts for what's to come next are done being written, however production has not begun yet on the new season. Filming is expected to start in early 2024 but we don't have an exact start date yet. Because of this, we know filming is going to take time, as well as post-production. It's unlikely the series will be ready for us before sometime in 2025.

Silo season 2 on Apple TV+

Another great hit from 2023 is Silo on Apple TV+! I'l be honest, I'm not a huge fan of survival-themed shows. But this one is a great one! The show started production back up again in December 2023. It sounds like filming had begun on the secon season before the writers strike and actors strike in May and July, respectively. However, this doesn't mean that being off for months didn't affect the schedule. Could we get Silo season 2 in 2024? It's possible. But again, with the filming and post-production that still needs to be done, it's more likely the second installment will be ready next year.

The Handmaid's Tale season 6 on Hulu

I'm so ready for the final chapter of The Handmaid's Tale on Hulu! I love this show, but I'm ready to say goodbye to it. And I'm really hoping for a satisfying ending in this final season. The season 5 finale came out in November 2022, so it's already been more than a year since we got new episodes. The production status of the dystopian series is unkonwn right now, with no updates on whether filming is taking place following the strikes. That's why we think that it's unlikely The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will be ready in 2024. This show has always taken its time to film between seasons, and I'm assuming this time is going to be no different.

The Morning Show season 4 on Apple TV+

Back in 2019 when I saw that Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon would be teaming up for a project, I was intrigued right away! The Apple TV+ series is one of my favorites, and I'm really looking forward to The Morning Show season 4! Since its debut, new seasons have been released about two years apart. The third season just premiered in September 2023, so I'm not expecting to see a new season this year.

Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt shared that she hopes filming on season 4 will begin in spring or summer of this year. So the cameras haven't even been rolling just yet. Is it possible the streaming service could release the drama in late 2024? Maybe. The show doesn't have a lot of CGI like Stranger Things and other fantasy series'. But again, I don't think that's going to be the case.

The Buccaneers season 2 on Apple TV+

If you like period dramas, with an extra dose of drama, you'll want to check out The Buccaneers on Apple TV+! I wasn't expecting all the twists and turns in the story, and there's certain plot points that have definitely taken me by surprise. Things get pretty messy. But that's why we're of course excited for the second season, which got the green light from the streamer in December 2023. That's also when the first season's finale was released. Given that it's still early and the first season just came to an end, it's probably going to be a while until the scripts for The Buccaneers season 2 will be done and filming can begin. That's why we think a 2024 release date might not be in the cards.

Citadel season 2 on Prime Video

Priyanka Chopra's spy action thriller Citadel came in with a bang when it arrived on Prime Video! The series' first season came to an end in May 2023. Since the writers strike started May 2 and then the actors strike followed July 14, the show didn't have time to work on any pre-production for the second season. And it wasn't until September and November 2023 that the strikes were resolved. This probably put the pre-production schedule behind, including starting the process of writing scripts. There's been no update right now on whether the writers room has reopened, and when filming is supposed to begin. And so, a 2025 release date for Citadel season 2 is looking more and more likely.
