Out with the old in with new: Steve Burton leaves Days of Our Lives for General Hospital

Out with the old and in with the new. Steve Burton is headed back to General Hospital after leaving his role as Harris after a year-long stint on Days of Our Lives.

Burton had currently been with Days of Our Lives for the past year as Harris Michaels, a role he played for both Days of Our Lives and its spinoff, Beyond Salem. The character was previously in a relationship with another General Hospital alum, Tamara Braun’s character Ava Vitali.

Due to their on-screen breakup, it looks like it freed Burton up to carry on back to General Hospital in the role he is most notable for playing in his career; Jason Morgan. Thursday evening on ABC, at the end of the General Hospital 60th Anniversary special, Burton made a surprise appearance with co-stars Laura Wright (Carly) and Kelly Monaco (Sam), teasing his future appearance later this year.

As we all know, those are his two exes. Could this mean another catfight between Carly and Sam, who have recently been getting along?

To this day there are still many ship fans for Jarly and even many more for Jasam, who still believe they are each other’s soulmates. Deadline has also reported and confirmed the return of Jason Morgan, which not only followed Burton’s horrific divorce and exit from Days of Our Lives.

This looks to create a new chapter both on and off-screen. Steve Burton informed the fans of General Hospital to “stay tuned...big things are coming to Port Charles.”

How will Jason Morgan fit into the fold of things at General Hospital now?

For the moment Sam is in a serious relationship with Dante Falconeri. Dante and Sam have both lost whom they thought were the love of their lives and created a family unit with their children that has become beautiful to watch on screen.

But with the father of Sam’s kids returning, could this mean trouble in paradise? On the flip side, before Jason left he was shortly married to long-time best friend Carly Spencer.

But when Sonny returned from the dead, Jason did the honorable thing and stepped aside so Sonny and Carly could reunite and become a family again. That is despite the fact Jason was in love with her.

Sonny even narrowly missed walking in on Jason and Carly making love upon his return. Things are really going to be shaken up in Port Charles with his return.

Jason has missed out on so much during a time when Carly needed him. But now she is in a relationship with Jason’s estranged twin brother, Drew Cain.

Drew is still reeling from his jail stint for being locked up for insider trading (which he was very much guilty of). It seems the trauma of it has taken a toll on the man.

Has this changed Drew forever and will he no longer be the man that Carly recognizes? If I had to guess, with the return of Jason, Drew Cain will soon be on the outside looking in.

When it comes to Jason, there’s just nobody who can compare for Carly. Now that the secret has come to light that Nina was behind the insider tip that put Drew behind bars and Carly in the hot seat, happiness for Sonny and Nina look bleak but not impossible.

Ride or die Carson fans believed this would be the opportunity for them to get back together but hold onto your horses. It may come out that Carly was behind some not-so-loyal events when it comes to Sonny, and we know how the man feels about lying.

There are many angles that Jason could be put into. But it also begs the question, is everyone going to be happy with this return?

Originally Steve Burton left General Hospital because of his refusal to get vaccinated, which didn’t bode well for all of the cast and fans. Steve’s return has brought some mixed emotions to put it lightly.
