The Last of Us Pedro Pascal is joining the MCU in The Fantastic Four
It looks like another reboot of The Fantastic Four is underway, with the official cast of the four superheroes announced yesterday (Valentine's Day). Marvel Studios shared an image of the superheroes celebrating the holiday of love on Twitter, alongside the announcement that Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, The Last of Us), Vanessa Kirby (The Crown, Napoleon), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear, Andor), and Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things, Catherine the Great) have been officially cast in the titular roles.
Pedro Pascal is not slowing down anytime soon
For some time, there had been rumors that Pascal was going to play Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards, and it seems they are true. Pascal has been quite the man of the hour for some time, starring in the extremely popular Disney Plus Star Wars show The Mandalorian and the equally popular video game TV show adaptation on HBO, The Last of Us.
Need we remind you of the SNL The Last of Us/Mario Kart spoof from last year? Aside from the film and The Last of Us season 2, Pascal is also going to be involved in other projects titled: Tropico, My Dentist's Murder Trial, and supposedly, although not confirmed, Materialists.
Pascal is joined by a stellar cast, all set to play the four astronauts turned superheroes; Richard's love interest the Invisible Woman/Susan Storm, Sue's brother the Human Torch/Johnny Storm, and The Thing/Ben Grimm.
The Fantastic Four: How will this reboot compare to the previous films?
With the announcement, Marvel also shared the release date of the film: July 25, 2025. For many, when they think of The Fantastic Four, they either remember the films from 2005 and 2007, (which starred Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis), or the one that everyone tries to forget exists from 2015 (which starred Miles Teller, Kata Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell).
This begs the obvious question; will this upcoming version be a success or failure? The next question is, will Dr. Doom return as the main antagonist, and if so, who will take on the role?
There have been rumors and debates on whether Marvel is going in a new direction, slowly separating themselves from the Kang the Conqueror Arc and perhaps moving towards a storyline focused on Dr. Doom. Although Dr. Doom does appear briefly in the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine teaser, it's not enough proof to convince us.
At least just yet. At the same time, it will be hard to do a Fantastic Four movie without Dr. Doom.
