What to watch on TV this week: Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, Mrs. and Mrs. Smith, and more (Feb. 5, 2024)

There are not too many TV premieres this week (Feb. 5-11, 2024), but there are some quality TV shows for our readers to watch. If you're looking for what to watch this week, we shared two new premieres and whether they are worth watching, along with a larger list of new shows to check out.

This week, we're highlighting a new Hulu series, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a new Amazon Prime Video series.

Feud: Capote vs. The Swans (Hulu)

Starring almost every single 80/90's legendary actress, Feud: Capote vs. The Swans premiered on Hulu on Jan. 31, 2024, with two episodes. Naomi Watts (The Watcher), Diane Lane (Y: The Last Man), Chloe Sevigny (The Girl from Plainville), Calista Flockhart (Supergirl), Demi Moore (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), and Molly Ringwald (Riverdale) all play high society women from New York (well Ringwald plays Joanne Carson, Johnny's ex in Los Angeles).

American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy produces the show, and Gus Van Sant (Milk and Finding Forrester) directs all episodes about Truman Capote's social war (before social media) against his best girlfriends (the Swans). When Capote writes a fictionalized version of his friend's secrets, the Swans vow to cast him out of New York's in-crowd.

It looks like the cards are stacked against Capote, so the hope is that he is able to fight back at some point. Some decent laughs and some purposeful overacting make this a combination of Dallas and 90120. This show will be your new guilty pleasure.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith (Amazon Prime Video)

Mr. and Mrs. Smith is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video, as of Friday, Feb. 2, 2024. There are two episodes available with more new episodes dropping weekly on Prime Video.

In the series, Donald Glover (Atlanta) is Mr. Smith and he created and wrote the TV version of the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie 2005 movie. Maya Erskine (Obi Wan Kenobi) is Mrs. Smith.

Glover makes at least one serious deviation from the movie version. While the movie had the real married couple (TV and in real life) in the dark about their spouse's violent occupation, the series had the couple in a fake marriage and knowingly working together as an espionage/assassin team. The first two episodes reveal the start of their relationship and the operation of the first two missions.

There are laughs, some suspense, and a little action in between the Smiths awkwardly getting to know each other. The show is pretty good, but we'll give it a few more episodes before we declare it a must-watch.
