Since its premiere on Paramount+ in 2023, the supernatural teen drama series School Spirits has been one of the most underrated shows currently on television. The series has attracted an extremely loyal fan following who adore these ghosts and can't wait for each new season. Thankfully, the show will continue to haunt our watch lists with School Spirits season 4 on the way.
Paramount+ announced the fourth season renewal in March 2026 shortly after the third season finished up its run, getting a jump on the new episodes and getting us back to Split River as soon as possible. However, with the latest news about season 4 beginning filming, fans have noticed a particular cast member missing from the first-look photos from set.
School Spirits season 4 begins filming without Milo Manheim
On Aug. 24, Paramount+ announced that School Spirits has started filming with a pair of photos of the cast on set. Unfortunately, Milo Manheim isn't featured in either photo, which fans quickly picked up on. The actor commented on the Instagram photos with a direct reference to his missing character Wally: "Sorry I forgot to switch out of my ghost form for this photo."

As School Spirits fans know, Manheim is currently busy filming Disney's live-action adaptation of Tangled in the co-leading role of Flynn Rider. Production began on the highly anticipated musical in June 2026 and continues well into August 2026 with an end date currently unknown. The biggest question about season 4 right now is whether Manheim will reprise his role as Wally Clark.
Depending on Manheim's production schedule on Tangled and availability during and after fliming, the actor will likely be able to appear in School Spirits season 4, though we should likely expect less Wally than we're used to. The season 3 finale left the door open for the character to return, and while a television series would typically be in first position to a film, this seems to be a special case.
The photo that Paramount+ shared announcing that cameras have started rolling confirms the returns of the rest of the main cast: Peyton List, Kristian Ventura, Spencer MacPherson, Kiara Pichardo, Sarah Yarkin, Nick Pugliese, Rainbow Wedell, Josh Zuckerman, Miles Elliot, and Ci Hang Ma. Additional casting announcements, including Manheim's involvement, have yet to be made.
Like the first three seasons, School Spirits season 4 is expected to contain eight new episodes that will be released weekly in 2027. Paramount+ hasn't teased a potential release window for the fourth season, though given that seasons 2 and 3 both premiered in late January, it's a safe bet that we're looking at another late January or early February premiere in 2027.
There's no doubt that fans will be keeping a close watch on social media now that it's confirmed that School Spirits season 4 began filiming without Milo Manheim for any news, updates, and teases from the set. The actor has already made a tongue-and-cheek reference to his absence in the set photos, which means that he no doubt has even more teases up his sleeve.
