Following its Aug. 5 premiere, Sterling Point quickly became Prime Video's latest new young adult series to win over fans and rise right to the peak position of the streamer's Top 10 most popular shows ranking. It's safe to say that the series, which comes from creator Megan Park, has cemented itself as another coming-of-age series that we couldn't get enough of this summer.
Prime Video hasn't revealed the fate of Sterling Point season 2 as of this writing on Aug. 10, but based on the show's performance so far, it's safe to say that we could very well be heading back to Muskoka for another season of family secrets and messy romances. Thankfully, Park already knows where the characters will be headed in season 2, including the new characters that will enter the fold.
Sterling Point season 1 ended in the midst of continued chaos for newly reunited long-lost sisters Annie and Ramona. After discovery the real truth about Ramona's paternity, the sisters came to a disagreement about the future of the island they own together, ultimately opting for a life swap. But there are still question marks surrounding relationships, birth parents, and more.
Megan Park hints at what's next in possible Sterling Point season 2
While Annie and Ellis ended up together in Sterling Point season 1, Ramona and Oona did not reconcile after their unfortunate break-up. It's all meant to propel their individual stories forward, as Annie and Ramona each further explore the lives they could have had if the adults in their lives hadn't kept the truth and each other from them since they were born.
But Park hints that after developing the world of Sterling Point and each other characters in the first season, the second season would dig deeper into everything. Beyond even what the immediate future holds for Annie and Ramona in their sibling bond and romantic relationships, the fate of their inherited island remains in the balance and a major jumping off point.
"Season 1, you do spend a lot of time setting up the world, and then I do almost feel like if you get a season 2, itās when you relax and go deeper. [Ramona and Annie] switch lives, so thereās a lot for a second season to come back to. And then thereās also the whole thing about when Ramona turns 18, whatās gonna happen with the property?" Park teased to Entertainment Weekly.
The creator, writer, and director also revealed that the parents will remain a big part of the storytelling, including Ellis' parents Joe and Kate. Their past, and how it pertains to Goldie, has plenty more secrets yet to be shared, though we can't imagine that any new information would be surprising to Annie, Ramona, or Ellis at this point. But surely, there's more skeletons in these closets.
There's more mom drama up ahead for Annie, Connor, and Oona
Sterling Point season 2 would also likely introduce Oona and Maple's absent mother, as Park told EW. Oona's mom wasn't seen in the first season, though her absence was a huge source of contention between Oona and her little sister. There's no doubt that their mom making an unannounced comeback to Muskoka would make for even more tension in the show's "mommy and daddy issues."
But Oona and Maple's mom might not be the only mom making their first appearance in season 2. The season 1 finale revealed that Connor's search for his and Annie's birth parents resulted in a response from their biological mother, who wants to make contact. Park told Us Weekly, "Connor reaching out to his biological parents was something that was really important to me ā without Annieās knowledge ā which is a pretty bold and dramatic move.'
Park teased that there were many storylines that ended up being cut from season 1 and saved for season 2, including one involving Oona that she wouldn't divulge. But we can expect more family secrets for each of the characters, some history between Steven and Denise explored, Kate's redemption after Joe's betrayal, and more developments on Annie's love triangle.
That's right! Even though Annie and Ellis ended up together, we should never say never when it comes to Rory possibly fighting for Annie again. Park told Swooon that he still has "skin in the game." She also admitted she doesn't have a multi-season plan for the series, though the season 2 plans are clearly coming into focus. Still, the timing of when we would pick back up with the story hasn't been determined and would depend on other factors.
When asked whether Sterling Point season 2 would possibly have a time jump to the next summer or we'd pick back up where we left off, the showrunner said, "Thatās a question thatās a little bit based on when we would shoot the show and timing. I think youād want to get a taste of what life has been like for Ramona and Connor in New York, and same with Annie."
Hopefully, Prime Video will share some exciting news about the show's future very soon and these teases will become a reality. Whether you're Team Rory or Team Ellis, or firmly Team Ramoona, we can all agree that we want more Sterling Point as soon as possible.
