If you have been longing for a new season of The Gilded Age to hit your watch list, HBO just shared the news you have been waiting for. It's been a little over a year since the third season ended its run on the cable network and its streamer, and after nabbing some of the show's best ratings yet, the series returns with what's surely its most highly anticipated season yet.
The Gilded Age season 4 makes its premiere on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on both HBO and HBO Max. Once again, the new season will contain eight episodes, just like the second and the third seasons, which will bring the season finale sometime in late December, likely ahead of the holidays. Thankfully, our HBO Sundays are getting back on track.
That's not to say that HBO Sundays haven't been entertaining and must-watch lineups this summer, with House of the Dragon season 3 and Lanterns delivering twists, turns, and can't-miss television everyone has been talking about. But we have definitely been ready to get back to basics with the network's juiciest dramas like The White Lotus and, coming up much sooner, The Gilded Age.
The Gilded Age season 4 teaser previews Bertha's next moves
Following the shocking season 3 finale, we are in for quite the next chapter of The Gilded Age. When we last left the characters in last year's finale, the big event was by far Peggy and William getting engaged, even in the face of the strife they went through with their families. Speaking of romance, Marian and Larry settle their differences for another shot at their relationship.
The same can't be said for Bertha and George, who remain on the outs after Bertha's steadfast resolve for Gladys to marry Hector and the divides that caused in their own marriage. Bertha continued to make big moves that impact society by inviting divorced women to her ball, which has ripple effects based on the season 4 teaser.
In the first footage released from the new season, the stakes are higher than ever for each family as reputations and images are on the line. There's a dinner with the president to prepare for, tension still riddling the joining of two families, and Bertha's pushback against society's standards still making waves. Meanwhile, George remains at arm's length from his wife, and people are noticing.
HBO also shared the official season 4 synopsis: "Bertha Russell changed Society at a cost. Now, her family must reckon with the consequences as Agnes van Rhijn seizes an opportunity to regain her position. Meanwhile, Marian forges a new path for herself, and Peggy works to be accepted by her future in-laws. In this new era, you must be careful what you wish for."
While we don't quite know what jaw-dropping plot twists await us in The Gilded Age season 4, the teaser gives us everything we want and just enough to hold us over until November. Agnes and Ada still being at odds over the flip in their power dynamic remains an intriguing source of humor and delight, especially as Marian and Oscar make their own way amid their family's chaos.
