Although it hasn't been the longest wait between seasons in the show's run, we have been waiting over a year for The Gilded Age season 4 to make its premiere on HBO. Finally, our patience will be rewarded on Sunday, Nov. 1 when the premiere episode drops us right back into the drama after the show's best and most explosive season yet. It's safe to say our hopes are high.
In The Gilded Age season 3 finale, George's fate was seriously hanging in the balance after he was shot, but he was ultimately saved by Dr. Kirkland. Even though you would think George would have a renewed lease on life and be full of forgiveness after cheating death, he's not quite willing to start fresh with Bertha after all, which should make season 4 quite the adventure.
If you haven't had a chance to rewatch the series from the beginning, or even just the third season, before the fourth season begins this fall, we're sharing the quick refresher everyone needs. From who's prepping to get married to who's rekindling their romance to who could be headed for divorce, let's break down the fourth biggest things to remember before The Gilded Age season 4.

George and Bertha have trouble in their marriage
As previously mentioned, George and Bertha's marriage still isn't what it used to be after the various ups and downs in season 3. While George attempted to stick by Bertha's side as she made questionable decisions regarding Gladys' life, and even Larry's, almost dying gave him the further clarity he needed to step aside and reassess their partnership.
In the end, Gladys seemed to come around to her marriage to Hector and their relocation to England (they're even expecting a child together), George doesn't agree with the manipulative means that Bertha took to force their daughter to marry a royal. He doesn't agree with a number of the decisions she made for their family in the name of appearance and power.
Going into season 4, George and Bertha are at a crossroads in their marriage as he expressed to her in the season 3 finale that they will remain separated. The season 4 trailer didn't offer much more hope on the state of their marriage, but you never know what might happen. Bertha made strides to make divorce less socially reprehensible last season. Will that come back to bite her?

Marian and Larry are rekindling their romance
Throughout the show's run, Marian and Larry have remained one of the biggest will-they-or-won't-they couplings, and we couldn't help but cheer the couple on to make it work. Unfortunately, just when things were looking up for the couple during their engagement, Marian called things off when she believed she could no longer trust Larry after he lied about his whereabouts.
Larry had told Marian that he was going to dinner with his friends, but he actually went to the Haymarket, a nightclub that also has a brothel. Their split was an unfortunate twist, but by the end of season 3, the pair come back around to each other, though Larry was initially hesitant to let Marian back in. They decide to start again, which leads them into season 4.

Another wedding is on the way
While the Russells are up and down and Marian and Larry are trying to find their flow again, there's at least one stable couple we can expect in The Gilded Age season 4. William proposed to Peggy, and she happily accepted. However, the differing dynamics and ideologies between their families caused tension and strife as their relationship grew to the next step.
Following Peggy and William's engagement, we can expected to see their wedding, but it might not be the only wedding featured in season 4. Perhaps Marian and Larry will find their way back down the aisle, and what's more, Oscar made a proposal of his own to Mrs. Winterton to partner up in a "marriage of convenience" that would be equally beneficial to them in society.
To see what happens in each of these major storylines and more, make sure to watch The Gilded Age season 4 premiere on Sunday, Nov. 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max!
