Widow's Bay is officially TV's big winner of 2026! The new Apple TV series took home a whopping 14 Emmys, including wins for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Unfortunately, the Emmy wins don't mean that we're going to see Widow's Bay season 2 premiere any sooner.
Kate O'Flynn, who also won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, revealed to Screen Rant that the cast and crew will start filming Widow's Bay season 2 in March 2027.
"I know it's hopefully March time, I think, we might be filming season 2. But I don't know anything else about it, honestly," O'Flynn said.
The March start to filming is in line with what we've been hearing about Widow's Bay season 2 since the season ended back in June. We learned from Stephen Root, who just won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, around that time that they were trying to start filming earlier in the year than they did the first season, via Polygon. Widow's Bay season 1 started filming in May 2025.
We also learned that filming would not be starting until 2027 because Katie Dippold and the writers would be finishing the scripts for season 2 until the end of the year, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Unfortunately, that's going to push the release date back. We definitely will not be seeing Widow's Bay season 2 in April, like we did with season 1 on Apple TV.

When is the earliest Widow's Bay season 2 could premiere?
Apple TV hasn't announced when exactly Widow's Bay season 2 will premiere. We don't even know if the new season will arrive next year or if we'll be waiting until 2028.
With that said, there are reasons to believe that Apple TV is going to try to cut down the break between seasons of Widow's Bay, but it's still going to be quite the wait between seasons.
If production starts in March 2027, the show will probably film for a few months into the summer. Then, there will be a break for post-production before it's ready to be released on Apple TV.
The one good thing that Widow's Bay has going for it is that it's a comedy series with episodes roughly 30-40 minutes. It's not an hour-long drama with a ton of VFX and stuff like that. That's going to cut down prep, filming, and editing time that a lot of Emmy-winning shows need.
Realistically, production on season 2 could be done by June or July, if the series follows a similar timeline to the first season. If that happens, there's a good chance we'll see Widow's Bay season 2 in late 2027, likely sometime from October to December.
That's basically the earliest we could see the new season. Most seasons of Apple TV shows are released about a year after they start filming, but we've seen shorter gaps for some of Apple TV's comedies, like Shrinking.
For example, Shrinking season 2 production wrapped in June 2024. Apple TV released the second season on Oct. 16, 2024, which was only about four months after filming wrapped. That's the timeline I'm looking at for Widow's Bay season 2.
If everything goes well and production wraps in early summer 2027, we could see the new season premiere by the end of the year.
Unfortunately, if there are some big delays, things get a little more tricky. Then, it would be fair to assume that we'll be waiting until early 2028 to watch Widow's Bay season 2.
I hope that the wait isn't that long, but it's going to be at least another year until Widow's Bay season 2 premieres. Hopefully, we'll have more updates to share about the upcoming season. Until then, you can always rewatch season 1 on Apple TV. That's what I'm going to do!
