After 19 months, it is finally happening in Yellowjackets season 4! The Yellowjackets will be rescued from the Canadian wilderness and return home.
They will not only be met by small-town excitement. As the new Yellowjackets season 4's teaser trailers suggest, the team's return home may be more on par with a national celebration than just a local New Jersey victory.
Their survival is an event worth discussing, which puts every remaining survivor under the spotlight and begs the question of how the group will handle this.
Yellowjackets season 4 trailer raises important questions
Due to the show's dual-timeline nature, part of this question is already answered. The Yellowjackets will explain that they starved, scavenged, and hunted to keep themselves afloat. They will never confirm rumors that they turned to cannibalism. They will never give a real, straight answer about what really happened out there, and they will keep their heads down as well as they can. But how do they get there, and what is their return to civilization really like? At what point are they overwhelmed by the things that used to be normal to them, like a trip to the grocery store or a hot shower?
The teaser trailer shows that the Yellowjackets are bound to be a national story. How could they not be? But more questions remain about exactly how they manage to get through their initial return home and what they do before they inevitably split up.
In season 3, Melissa suggested that things were going on that made her feel unsafe with the rest of the group, which led to her faking her death to avoid potentially being a new target. When faced with the ghost of Jackie in a freezer, Shauna is forced to confront the tease that maybe the Yellowjackets did some particularly dark acts after their return home, as they may not have adjusted to ordinary life very well after living in such an adrenaline-filled environment.
How will the Yellowjackets react to being back in their homes, living in a town that is filled with the ghosts of those they lost or killed in the Wilderness? How does Natalie lose her sense of purpose? How does Shauna go from a nearly rabid presence to the mask of a calm housewife?
What are the final threads that tear Taissa and Van apart? How do Natalie and Travis get wrapped up in their toxic co-dependent relationship? How long is Lottie home for before her parents send her away, and what happens in the meantime? What about Travis and Lottie's dynamic in the Wilderness translates to their return home that keeps the two in touch as adults?
One of the most exciting parts of the final season of Yellowjackets is already having plenty of answers, but waiting to see how those events play out. Audiences already know what became of these young women after they were rescued, but the story has yet to be told about how the rescue, and what they really did in the Wilderness, impacted the way their lives played out once they returned to New Jersey. Why were characters like Shauna and Taissa, who argued to stay in the Wilderness, the ones who clung to a mask of normalcy, while those who were desperate to get home, such as Natalie and Van, were unable to do the same?
Season 4 also has plenty of character dynamics to answer for, such as how Shauna and Natalie's relationship will play out following Natalie's successful call for help and how Hannah ends up bonding with Melissa before her death. Now that Melissa has reunited with Shauna, Taissa, and Misty in the adult timeline, what does that mean for a potential battle between the four women while Taissa and Misty plot against Shauna?
Devoting the fourth season to showing how the survivors grow into the women they become helps bridge the gap of the 25-year time difference between the two main storylines. It offers the chance to truly come full circle in how these survivors dealt with the aftermath of their actions and confronted, or avoided, what had really happened to them, and what they had done to others.
There is still so much to answer for in terms of how the Yellowjackets went from their mindset in the Wilderness to the adults they were when each of them was initially introduced. With each season, the answers help give a better understanding of each character and their relationships. Yellowjackets has never shied away from confronting the emotionally devastating aspects of trauma. Yet, for all the life-or-death scenarios the survivors had undergone while they were stranded, perhaps their reintegration into society may be their biggest challenge yet.
Yellowjackets season 4 premieres on Nov. 20, 2026, on Paramount+!
