According to an HBO press release, the character Colin Farrell will be playing is named Ray Velcoro and is pretty much nothing like we’ve seen in True Detective yet.
"Colin will play Ray Velcoro, a “compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.”"
You can’t lie, you were imaging Farrell in a derivative role from the first season, even if that’s not what you wanted. That’s all we had to go off of though, so you can’t be blamed. That being said, this seems to be the type of role that will stretch Farrell’s talents in ways that could land him Emmy gold,a s the role sounds like one of the best in his career.
