True Detective Season 2: Three Down, One to Go
If you missed the news earlier today, Taylor Kitsch has been officially cast in True Detective’s second season. The announcement came after Kitsch’s own admittance that he didn’t know whether he would actually be in the season or not. For some time it felt like Kitsch was already involved, at least that was the general assumption after not hearing word either way for so long.
That makes three leads down, which at one time might have been all there was. But we know that we’re waiting for one more, and that one is the female lead. The role has been the most difficult to pin down, and just when it seemed like there was a lock for it, a new round of auditions were said to be taking place. Soon after that, however, Rachel McAdams appeared as the front runner.

And that’s where we remain. HBO publicly offered the role to McAdams, but nothing has come of it so far. At least nothing that either party wants public. Now that the three other leads are hammered down, HBO may be anxious to finish the job. HBO, and sometime the actors themselves, have been pretty good at letting us know when something becomes official.
It’s a safe assumption to say at this point that either McAdams passed on the role, or the negations are ongoing. Now that we’re finally starting to get down to the wire, the final lead should fall into place sooner rather than later.
