HBO Now Is Now Live
By Nick Tylwalk
The wait is over. You can now stream HBO programming to your heart’s content thanks to the official launch of HBO Now.
The standalone streaming service is Apple exclusive for the time being, with no date yet announced for when that might change. You can subscribe directly from your supported device, including iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, or visit the HBO Now website to get started. If you have broadband through Optimum, you can also add it to your existing package.
Subscribing costs $14.99 a month, and gives users access to “every episode of every season of the best of HBO’s award-winning original programming, plus exclusive Hollywood blockbusters.” HBO has been doing such a good job with its TV series that it’s easy to forget its prior status as the premier premium movie channel, but movies are certainly still part of its attractiveness, even today.
Still, it’s hard to imagine that the real hook for most prospective subscribers isn’t the network’s slate of upcoming series, including returning favorites like Game of Thrones and promising newcomers like Westworld. And from a business perspective, you can bet that HBO’s competitors will be watching carefully to see how HBO Now does in its first few months of existence.
