HBO renews Veep and Silicon Valley for another season
By Bryce Olin
One day after the fourth season premiere of Veep and the second season premiere of Silicon Valley, HBO announced both shows will be renewed for another season, according to the AV Club.
Both shows were expected to be renewed for another season, so this shouldn’t come as less of a surprise than when Veep creator and showrunner Armando Iannucci announced last week that the fourth season of Veep will be his last with the series. David Mandel, formerly of Curb Your Enthusiasm, will lead the show for the fifth season and possibly longer, should HBO choose to extend the show for another season in 2017.
Veep has a much better track record than Silicon Valley, but that’s ultimately because Mike Judge’s tech-centered comedy has only had one season.
The reviews for Silicon Valley have been fairly mixed; however, the show has gathered quite a large following.
While the extensions do say a lot about how HBO thinks of Veep and Silicon Valley, it also indicates that HBO is comfortable with its spring Sunday night lineup with Game of Throes, Veep, Silicon Valley, and Last Week Tonight. According to the AV Club’s report, Game of Thrones and Last Week Tonight are already in for next season, which will mean the spring Sunday night lineup should remain the same.
