HBO releases trailer for The Brink starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins
By Bryce Olin
Heading into another huge TV weekend, HBO released the trailer for their new dark comedy The Brink.
From the genius minds of the Benabib bros, Roberto and Kim, The Brink stars Jack Black and Tim Robbins, and also features Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Carla Gugino, Eric Ladin, Maribeth Monroe, and Pablo Schrieber.
The title “The Brink” is referring to a world on “the brink” of World War III.
Here is the official synopsis from HBO.com:
"A new half-hour dark comedy series, The Brink focuses on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: Walter Larson (played by Tim Robbins), the US Secretary of State; Alex Talbot (Jack Black), a lowly Foreign Service officer; and Zeke Tilson (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War Three."
Based on the success of Veep and House of Cards in recent years, The Brink might be that dark, political comedy TV audiences have been looking for. It’s not everyday you get Jack Black and Tim Robbins in the same TV series.
The premise is a bit dark, more pitch-black actually, but if it’s funny, the darkness won’t matter. My only concern is that it could hit a little close to home. Not for me, but for other people…
The Brink premieres June 21, the same day as True Detective: Season 2 and Ballers.
We know True Detective is going to be dark. Ballers is going to be a party show, a la Entourage. I think The Brink is going to fit perfectly with HBO’s quality summer Sunday night lineup.
