What’s on HBO This Weekend? – 10/3 – 10/4

It’s that time of week again. It’s time to see what’s on HBO this weekend, and it looks like it’s going to be a good one. Highlights include Academy Award winner American Sniper and long awaited season two of The Leftovers.

Saturday 10/3

American Sniper – 8:00 p.m.

HBO Description: Chris Kyle enlisted to become a Navy SEAL in the wake of 9/11…he would go on to become the most prolific and deadly sniper in U.S. military history with 160 confirmed kills. But along the way, the killing would eat away at his soul. From legendary director Clint Eastwood comes this powerful, Oscar(R)-winning drama that reveals Kyle’s penetrating story from his Texas roots to his unparalleled accuracy in war-torn Iraq. Bradley Cooper stars as Kyle; Sienna Miller co-stars. Directed by Clint Eastwood; written by Jason Hall, based on the book by Chris Kyle and Scott McEwen. (R)

Boxing After Dark – 10:15 p.m.

HBO Description: Lucas Matthysse (37-3, 34 KOs) takes on Viktor Postol (27-0, 11 KOs) in a junior welterweight fight; plus, Humberto Soto (65-8-2, 35 KOs) vs. Antonio Orozco (22-0, 15 KOs) in a super lightweight bout. (TVPG)

Sunday 10/4

The Leftovers Season Premier – 9:00 p.m.

HBO Description: Season Two Premiere. Jarden, Texas was renamed “Miracle” after it was discovered no one departed. The town has since become a magnet for tourists and people who are convinced it is special and can keep them safe. Among the local families is the Murphys: the father, John, the mother, Erika, and their twins, Evie and Michael. While trying to protect his town from frauds and charlatans, John gets an ominous warning from a man who claims to have psychic powers. Soon afterwards, Kevin Garvey, Nora Durst and Jill Garvey show up in Miracle. This newly formed “family” left Mapleton to start over, but Kevin Garvey cannot seem to escape his past. The Murphy family and Kevin experience a mysterious event that will that change their lives forever. (TVMA)

HBO Description: In the wake of Effie and Pete’s fallout, the Farrelly brothers consider their place in the project. Jason takes his digital concerns directly to Ben, much to Effie’s dismay, and faces a decision between extra shooting days and shooting on film. Meanwhile, the search for a perfect location continues, causing drama among members of the team, and the cast assembles for a table read in the final days of pre-production. (TVMA)

Doll & Em – 10:36 p.m.

HBO Description: In rehearsals and over dinner with Mikhail Baryshnikov, Emily has trouble articulating the message of her and Dolly’s play. After Ewan fails to show up at a restaurant, Dolly starts displaying lovesick symptoms. A chance meeting with a modern-day Virginia Woolf ends up inspiring Emily. (TV14)
